We're probably quite lucky The Walking Dead came out in the 21st century and not, say, in the later stages of the 1980s. Special effects and budgets have come a long way since then, and I think we can all agree Robert Kirkman's post apocalyptic wasteland is slightly better suited to modern audiences.

However, what if The Walking Dead did come out in the late eighties? Well, what's very likely is that it would also have had an ill-advised video game tie in that was short on story but full of zombie killin'. Luckily, CineFix has saved our brains the trouble of having to imagine such a scenario, and has instead created a video showing a retro version of The Walking Dead.

We've already previously taken a look at The Walking Dead Season 1 and 2 in 8-bit form, and now it's time for Seasons 3 and 4 - y'know, the ones where the shit really hits the fan. Check it out below:

Of course, The Walking Dead has spawned its own real life video game adaptations, including the incredible point-and-click adventures created by Telltale. But the real question is, which do you prefer? Let us know below.

How do you prefer your Walking Dead?
