The first trailer for the 24th James Bond movie, Spectre, was unleashed last weekend and it gave folks their first good look at the upcoming Skyfall sequel. The new trailer seemingly picks up right where Skyfall left off, with MI6 still recovering from the attacks on their offices and more secrets being revealed about James Bond's past.

Indeed, it is definitely more of a teaser than a real trailer, but it does reveal that Spectre will be making some significant changes when it comes to the organization of Spectre and its leader Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

James Bond Has A Secret

After a glimpse of the still bombed out state of the MI6 offices, Eve Moneypenny has a surprise gift for James Bond. Unfortunately for James, the Skyfall residence didn't take all its secrets with it when it went up in flames. Moneypenny hands over a box that contains some charred documents and at least one photograph that offer a look into the secretive man's past.

The document is an Order of Temporary Guardianship that placed 12 year old James Bond in the care of Hannes Oberhauser. As the picture alludes to, Hannes Oberhauser was a father figure to James Bond and taught him how to ski in the Austrian Alps - a story like many in Bond's literary history that borrows from the author Ian Flemming's own personal life.

From Quantum to Spectre

From the casting announcement of Christoph Waltz joining the cast of Spectre, we know he is playing a fellow by the name of Franz Oberhauser, so we can safely assume that he is the son of James Bond's temporary guardian and it is this character that has had his face conveniently burned out from the photograph.

This leads Bond on a journey through the past and from the sound of the official plot synopsis, there's someone who might be agitating James by poking into his personal history - perhaps someone who points him to an old foe from Quantum for some answers?

Death Wears a Familiar Face

"A cryptic message from an unlikely source sets James Bond navigating the layers of a sinister organization known as SPECTRE. As M continues fighting political pressures that threaten the future of MI6, Bond draws closer to uncovering a hidden truth that threatens to destroy everything he has fought to protect."

Mr. White returns! If you don't recall who this character is, he was the one who walked away with the money at the end of Casino Royal - revealed to be working for the Quantum organization and escaped MI6 custody in Quantum of Solace. Looks like Mr. White may know a thing or two about how Quantum is related to the organization behind this ring that Bond is kind enough to return to him.

I'm enjoying how these Bond movies are really weaving together to tell a larger story. Quantum of Solace is no one's favorite Bond movie but it is good to see that they aren't just scrubbing it away. The trailer makes it look like Mr. White is the one with the cryptic message that sends Bond into the belly of the Spectre beast.

Welcome to Spectre, James

We leave the new teaser trailer with a look at the Spectre clubhouse and the man sitting at the end of the table. Why the trailer is going through the trouble of hiding Christoph Waltz's face when his voice is so recognizable is anyone's guess. Well, it is a teaser after all, isn't it?

We may have to wait to see the face our new Blofeld, but all signs are pointing to Christoph Waltz's Ernst Stavro Blofeld being a childhood friend of James Bond's which is definitely putting a twist on the relationship these two have always had in the books and previous movies that make up the extensive James Bond backstory.

I have a feeling that this relationship might be in place to not only give Bond a bigger personal stake in squashing Spectre from existence, but in also giving Blofeld a chance at trying to recruit James Bond into the Spectre fold. I'm not sure why else Bond would be walking into this meeting and being greeted so warmly by Waltz. It could make for some interesting conversations between the two!

What do you think? Did this [Spectre](movie:660009) teaser get you looking forward to the new James Bond adventure?
