Hello horror and exploitation fans! I'm Tony, the self-proclaimed Obscurity King, here to bring you one of the most awesome Italian rip-off sequels ever put to celluloid! Tonight's choice cut is Massacre In Dinosaur Valley, A.K.A. Cannibal Ferox 2! Don't worry if you haven't seen the original Cannibal Ferox though, because this isn't your mama's sequel! Massacre In Dinosaur Valley is one of the numerous Italian exploitation films that was released under different titles to capitalize on the box-office successes of other more famous movies around that time. As you may have deduced, this movie is extremely low-budget, which only adds to the charm of the experience! The film stars four-time exploitation star Michael Sopkiw, who serves as your serialized adventure hero of the day! Here's a picture of the man himself, the true archetypal protagonist (Or so director Michele Massimo Tarantini would have you believe) and not-so-invincible leading man!
This is the tale of a paleontologist, Kevin Hall (pictured above), who is traveling to the Valley of the Dinosaurs to find some kick ass fossils. He hitches a ride into town, gets in an awesome bar brawl with two giant South Americans, and boards the plane the next day with the other cliche members of the troupe. There's the hard-ass Vietnam War vet, his materialistic and sarcastic wife, a professor with a killer beard, his daughter, a South American photographer, and two gorgeous models. There will be no deviating from the stock character formula tonight! Anyway, they all get on the plane and start talking about how the Valley of the Dinosaurs is cursed, and the immediately the plane crashes in the middle of the jungle. Michael Sopkiw and the other survivors must brave quicksand, awesome cannibal tribes, slave traders, and piranhas if they want a chance at survival!
As you can see, the effects here are pretty awesome in a "so-bad-it's-good" kind of way. Also, this being an Italian film, the English dubbing is hilarious and amazing. It adds a level of camp to this already raunchy flick, and makes the whole experience enjoyable in a very shallow and guilty way. You will love this movie, and you will feel guilty for loving it. Oh, and the soundtrack is super cool and SUPER 80's! Through arrow storms, attacking wildlife, and dangerously thin plot lines, this romp is sure to leave you wondering how the path you were on could possibly lead to you finding such a cool movie! It's not glamorous; it's not original; it's not anything you've ever heard of before, and it's probably the most fun you've have on YouTube in a very long time! And yes, I am SHARING THE LINK HERE because you're worth it. Do yourselves a favor and treat yourselves to this awesome campy Italian rip-off exploitation fake-sequel about cannibals, the jungle, and power of Michael Sopkiw.
