It's official! (almost)
As widely speculated, Ben Hardy ( no relation to Tom) will be playing Angel, according to The Wrap's Jeff Sneider. This is his official tweet (transcript)
UPDATE: Tho my initial scoop suggested otherwise, I'm hearing BEN HARDY is indeed playing ANGEL in X-Men: Apocalypse.
The original X-Men are almost all cast for this 80's time period superhero spectacular- Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), and now Angel (Ben Hardy). Come on, I'm pullin' for you Iceman! (He'd probably be about 8 unless they Apocalypse dramatically changed when mutants were born) Also younger versions of Storm and Nightcrawler have been cast - Alexandra Shipp and Kodi Smit-McPhee.
Angel played a key role in the comic book story line Apocalypse, with Apocalypse having a key role in
Turning Angel into Archangel and making him one of the Four Horsemen
So I am interested in if they would do that *snap* that quickly after the character's introduction, or if they will hold out a bit longer.
POTENTIAL SPOILER :The concept art showed Angel in some kind of birdcage (ironic, right) so I speculate that he will be taken captive by Apocalypse during the film, with the X-Men also rushing to get him too. He will have him put in this cage with monsters who attack him, and rip off his wings, when Apocalypse presents a "promising option"
Another route they can go is this: with Rose Byrne's Moira MacTaggert returning, they can use this oppurtunity to present "the cure" and when Angel grows his wings, he is the test subject of the cure, with Apocalypse surfacing and offering him this option
I hope that they go the first route, but either way, I must say
Also, I wonder if Magneto and Professor X will come together to fight this threat like in the early 00's series X-Men: Evolution. The main people were also teens, with the exception of Beast (same as right now) and Storm (unlike this film)
