Next year is the much-anticipated movie [Captain America: Civil War](movie:994409), and anybody who read the Marvel TPB Civil War remembers the clone Thor who killed Goliath. This psychotic clone was created because Tony Stark saved a strand of Thor's hair during the first meeting of the Avengers, and the real Thor was presumed dead during that time period. Tony Stark and his pro-registration Avengers needed a secret weapon in order to beat Captain America and his free-wheeling Avengers. Enter the cyborg/Asgardian clone Ragnarok.
How could these events translate into the current Marvel Cinematic Universe? Will the real Thor survive [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035) or be summoned back to Asgard by Odin/Loki? It's always a possibility that Tony Stark decides that he needs a Thor clone during the events of Civil War on the pro-registration side. How could a Thor clone/Ragnarok be placed into the MCU--a universe somewhat based in reality?
Let's begin with my casting idea for Civil War...
Remember when Loki stabbed Thor during their battle at the top of Stark Tower during [The Avengers](movie:9040)? Thor later pulled out that knife from his side, chucked it to the floor and went on to fight the Chitauri.
There's Asgardian blood on that knife, and chances are Tony Stark found that knife and saved the blood. A tactical advantage he could possibly use in the future. So let's say that Stark has now used that blood to create a Thor clone to help him fight Captain America and other heroes. Besides Chris Hemsworth, who could play a clone Thor?
Liam Hemsworth, that's who! Chris "Thor" Hemsworth's younger brother! Throw him in tactical gear and a military haircut and you've got an MCU-style Ragnarok! He looks like a younger Thor, but you can tell the difference between the two on-screen.
What about a hammer? Thor needs a hammer, dammit! Another interesting idea I had would be the MCU Ragnarok co-opting the Ultimate Universe Thor's hammer! Being a product of cybernetics and genetic manipulation, this Thor clone would be outfitted with Stark Tech.
The Ultimate Thor has a complicated history, spanning several comic stories. After the fall of Asgard, Thor was a mortal man and used Stark Technology (based on his previous Asgardian powers and weaponry) to continue being a powerful superhero. His hammer can teleport and generate lightning.
Liam Hemsworth's Ragnarok would be enough like Thor to be believable, but still based in the military environment and technology the MCU has established. Plus, having a different actor play a Thor clone (and still possibly have the real Thor running around Asgard) would just be cool. I can see the Hot Toys version of Ragnarok being sold now...
What do you think?
