The Kingdom Hearts series is truly a unique and rather special universe for millions of fans. With many of our favorite Disney worlds and characters coming to life before our eyes thanks to the genius work of Square Enix, there's a lot to enjoy in KH. But that being said, they are not without their faults, and there's one section of gameplay that has always baffled me: the Gummi Ship sections.

Kingdom Hearts 3 isn't likely to receive its release date until the guts of 2016, but that's not going to stop us from imagining the worlds and new gameplay features that lie in store. But I'm wondering what Square Enix are planning to do with the gummi ship sections, because they need serious work.

Kingdom Hearts 3 & Gummi Ships

Ever since the first Kingdom hearts I've been so perplexed by Square Enix's design for transportation between worlds. The Gummi Ship sections of these games are seriously lacking. The design for the crafts are nowhere near intuitive, they're complicated to piece together, a lot of them look ridiculous and out of place with the game. And personally I found the flying sections to be tedious and boring, and I'm sure I'm not alone here.

Eventually you could just fast travel to other worlds and I never chose to fly the ship to a location once the option was removed, so I wonder what Square Enix were thinking with these segments. In theory, the idea of flying through space is immensely cool, but in practice these sections have always been lacking in comparison with the brilliant design of combat.

If Kingdom Hearts 3 includes these sections in the game, it's going to need to completely transform how they work, especially if they plan on having another boss fight battle. My god was that frustrating! Personally, I wouldn't be sad to see them completely omitted from the game if the shooting sections were replaced by cutscenes as we travelled to new worlds.

The Gummi Ship segments never felt like they were actually contributing to the charm of Kingdom Hearts. They've always felt tacked on and never really fluidly melded with the rest of the games. But if Square Enix can come up with a way of making the sections feel like a great joy to play, then naturally I'd welcome their inclusion in Kingdom Hearts 3!

So what do you think of the Gummi Ship sections fans? Have you enjoyed playing them in the past, or would you also like to see them gone from Kingdom Hearts 3 or at least transformed and updated for the XBOX One and PS4? Be sure to let us know in the comments below!
