Ever since the word was first out in January when director Neill Blomkamp released unofficial images of his concept art and ideas for a plausible sequel in the ALIEN franchise, fans of the franchise have been more than just ecstatic. But what made them go gaga over it, is the fact that the film would be a direct in-line sequel to James Cameron's Aliens (1986) and this was affirmed by Blomkamp himself when he released concept art showing the possible return of the lead characters -- Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and Cpl.Dwayne Hicks (Michael Biehn) -- for his latest venture of [Alien 5](movie:1468950).

With Neill Blomkamp helming this new roll-out from the presumably dead franchise, the expectations are on a soaring high. The South African-Canadian director, known for his documentary-style, hand held narrative technique is a major factor to look out for. His involvement in the project just compounds to the excitement of the fans. Interestingly enough, Sharlto Copley, the star of Blomkamp's previous Sci-Fi ventures, District 9 and [Elysium](movie:44956), revealed his interest to play a Xenomorph in the film.

The ALIEN franchise has so far been subjected to some shameful slander, thanks to a good number of utterly terrible and senseless sequels. We all love to pretend as if Alien: Resurrection never really happened, don't we ? Let's just hope Neill Blomkamp pulls this new venture off just in a way fans expect him to do and bring the long dead franchise back to life again.
