We've all been waiting to see the capabilities of the dragons from [Game of Thrones](movie:817617). Pretty much anybody can infer that these dragons aren't going to be underrepresented by the crew. It's important to make sure they're as intimidating as they would be in real life.

Drogon, the largest of the bunch, might be the most difficult to portray on screen. In order to make sure that they did the best job, the crew created the world's largest "fire breathing crane" ever for Season 5 of GoT.

This quote from VFX supervisor Joe Bauer pretty much sums it up perfectly:

"Drogon is twice the size he was last year. He's about 40 feet long and 20 percent bigger than the other two dragons. He's also the alpha, so his way goes. He's still affectionate with Dany, but he's got his own mind and needs her less, just like any child growing up... Drogon gets to perform more this year than ever, and have more complex interactions with Dany."

I can't wait.

They are going to make it life-like by using a "Technodolly." It's a 15-foot crane used to hold a camera on its telescopic arm. Instead, they put a flamethrower on the end of it. This is going to be all kinds of epic.
