Sometimes, I just wake up on the wrong side of bed. My brother likes to call me an angry bear, my little sister calls me Mr. Troll. Whether it's heaps of homework to drown in, yard-work to toil at, or even just driving my siblings somewhere, there's something bound to tempt me to turn into a raving mess of anger.

I don't like living like that, and I don't think most people do either. Live positively. That's what I say and that's what I try to wake up determined to do. But it's hard because I'm human. In everything, though, I always look for the bright side. Sometimes it's easy, and sometimes it seems impossible to put a smile on my face.

One thing I've begun to do, is watch movies and try to find positive, encouraging messages to take away from them. Simply put, movies are my favorite way to learn. I'm very much a visual person. Because of that, I've collected quite the golden vault of positive, inspirational movie quotes that help me face each day. As a gift from me to you, I want to share my top fifteen movie quotes that will hopefully give you some encouragement to wake up tomorrow with a smile on your face.

1. Believe in yourself. Your confidence is the key to your success and happiness.

After a while, you learn to ignore the names people call you and just trust who you are. - from Shrek

One important thing I've learned these last eighteen years of my life, is that in order to do anything, to be anything, you have to believe in yourself. I don't mean in some cheesy, It's-my-destiny kind of way. Genuinely believe that you can be whatever you want to be, that you have the ability to do whatever you want. It just takes a little motivation. That's all. It's not hard.

2. Hope every minute of your life. Be excited about your future.

I know what I have to do now, I’ve got to keep breathing because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring? - from Cast Away

Without hope, why live? If there's no hope, there's no excitement. If there's no excitement, there's no joy. You have to be overjoyed by the thought of your future. You've got to hold on to the hope that you'll see your dreams come true. Tomorrow, next week, next year, could be the start of your very own exciting adventure!

3. You can choose your own path in life.

We are who we choose to be. - Green Goblin, from Spider-Man

The only person that gets to choose where you go in life is you. This has been really hard for me to swallow, because, in the end, it puts all responsibility on me and not on other people like my parents. But the more I think about it, the more I love that facet of life. I'm in control of my future, I can be whatever I want to be. I can do whatever I want. Embrace that! No one gets to choose what you'll do for a career or who you'll marry. It's up to you so go conquer mountains!

4. Don't settle for trying. Be determined. Do it.

Do, or do not. There is no “try”. - Yoda, from Star Wars

You'll never get through life by just trying. You've got to want to win in life. You've got to be determined to succeed every step of the way. You've got to just do it. Just do it. Don't try to do it, do it. Don't try to get into college; do it. Get into college. Don't try to get that new job; do it. Get that new job. You can do it. You can do it if you're awesome!

5. Make every moment count. Enjoy your life and don't waste any part of it.

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. - from Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

God created every single one of us for a reason. It doesn't matter if you were born in the inner city or the rich suburbs. It doesn't matter if you were born in the African Jungles or Downtown Chicago. God gave you a certain number of years, months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds to live. Make every second count. Do something amazing. Be great. Don't throw it away for love, money, or fame. Use it to inspire others!

6. The little things you do now can make a huge difference in the future.

It’s what you do right now that makes a difference. - from Black Hawk Down

At first, this might seem really, really scary. It's not. It's actually quite promising. If you think that you're too young to make a difference or that you're to far into life to change, then you're wrong. Everything little thing helps to make the future bright. Don't be afraid of your future. You can start making it today!

7. Have a reason. Have a reason for what you want to do.

To find something, anything, a great truth or a lost pair of glasses, you must first believe there will be some advantage in finding it. - from All the King’s Men

One of the hardest lessons in life I've learned and I am still learning, is the lesson of having a reason for my dreams. My parents are always challenging me to think about the future, to think about why I'd want to do certain things? Can I help people doing this? Can I serve God doing this? Can I make people laugh doing this? Will it make me a better person? You won't be able to fulfill your dreams without a foundation to build those dreams on.

8. Past experiences are valuable lessons. Learn from them.

Oh yes, the past can hurt. But you can either run from it, or learn from it. – Rafiki, from The Lion King

I hate to remember my last ten years or so, which is probably why I remember them so well. I was not a good kid, and I regret it. But I think God was watching over me, because now I'm a better person. I've made so many mistakes in my life already, but each time I make one, I learn from it. I've learned lessons now that I probably would have never learned if I hadn't been that bad kid five years ago. As painful as your past may be, learn from it. Think about it. Where did you go wrong? How can you do it differently next time?

9. Life's short, so take it slow. Don't miss anything.

Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. - Ferris, from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

With all the technology, parties, and sports today, it's hard to find time for anything. And considering how fast time speeds by, there's not much time to really enjoy the beauty of life. But you can do that. Stop all the action. Breathe in and take in your surroundings for once. You're body cannot keep speeding a million miles per hour. Sooner or later you'll break into fits of depression, or anxiety, or anger. We miss some of the most amazing things about life just because we're taking life four hundred steps at a time.

10. Don't wait for the perfect time to do something. Do it now or you may regret it.

I don’t regret the things I’ve done, but those I did not do. - from Empire Records

This kind of goes along with the quote above. If you keep saying, "I'll wait for the perfect time," then you'll never do it. Sometimes, you only get one shot at a job, or a date, or a family, or a car. Whatever it is, don't wait so long that you miss the chance to do it. If there's one thing that I dread it is looking back on my life and being full of regrets. That scares me. So I try to not give up those golden opportunities. You should try to do the same!

11. Don't be afraid of what others think about you. You can choose to live your own life.

It is not our abilities that show what we truly are… it is our choices. - Dumbledore, from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

I've been homeschooled all my life and a Christian all my life. Because of this, depending on who I'm with, I can seem like an outsider and weirdo. I've struggled to learn the hard lesson of not worrying about what others think of me. But now that I've mostly learned this (I'll never stop learning) it makes life so much more enjoyable. Yes, we're all unique. We were never supposed to be identical copies of each other, so live life like you want, not like your best friend wants you to. Don't worry what the school bullies or club says about you. It's your life, not theirs!

12. Just keep going, you’ll make it one day.

“Run, Forrest, run!” - from Forrest Gump

If you've ever run a race (I have) then you'll know that everyone finishes. Or at least most everyone does. It doesn't matter how slow or how fast you run (or walk), hopefully you'll cross that finish line. Run for you dreams, guys. It may be a wild dream like being a killer whale trainer or President of the United States. It may be as wild as being the first man to raise a family on Mars. That doesn't matter. If you start running, working for it, then you'll reach it. It may take you all your life, or you may get there in just a few years. If you stick with it, success is pretty much guaranteed.

13. Achieving your dreams will bring hardship. Push through it.

If you’re going to try, go all the way. Otherwise don’t even start. This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives, jobs. And maybe your mind. It could mean not eating for three or four days. It could mean freezing on a park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery, isolation. Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance. Of how much you really want to do it. And you’ll do it, despite rejection in the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you can imagine. – from Factotum

There's no easy way to put this. Most of this has been inspirational and bright. The bad news is that no matter how hard you try, no matter how much you push, life will push back harder. There will be moments in your life when you will feel like dying, when you want to jump off a cliff. You'll break down, cry, scream, and sob. That's okay. Put one foot forward, then another. Keep moving. All you have to do is take one step at a time, not four, not ten, not twenty. No matter how hard life pushes back, you can do it. There is nothing that can stop you, so whatever hardship or trial comes your way, face it head on and conquer it. Remember, if you can take it, then you can make it.

14. Greatness requires work.

Great men are not born great, they grow great. - Mario Puzo, from The Godfather

Throughout my highschool years (I'm a senior now), I've realized that the homework isn't going to do itself. I've waved my wand, said my hocus pocus, and nothing. Nothing happens. There's no becoming great without work. You've got to imagine your greatness twenty or thirty years from now, and then put in the work it takes to get there. It may be hard and boring, but, in the end, you'll be more than grateful you did it.

15. Love and take care of yourself. It's your life.

You can’t live your life for other people. You’ve got to do what’s right for you, even if it hurts some people you love. - from The Notebook

It's great and all if you're all about helping others, healing the sick, protecting the innocent. Sooner or later, though, you're going to crash and burn. You have to make sure you're taking care of yourself. You can't be great if you're dead. Have fun. Relax. Enjoy yourself. It's your life. No matter what you do, someone will be offended. Don't tear yourself in two by trying to satisfy everyone. You can't. Do what's right for you.

In the end, just relax. Just relax and enjoy life. Life is wonderful, beautiful, amazing, and a ton of other incredible things.

Well, I hope that was helpful to you guys. These quotes and many more have made a huge impact on the way I live life. It's made me a better person, I think. Let me know in the comments what you're favorite quotes are and why.
