Hold onto your your britches everyone, Disney is back with another announcement that will turn one of their animated fairytales into a live-action film. This time, the character getting the live action treatment isn't a princess, but will be the Italian marionette, Pinocchio!

In case you've forgotten the magic of Disney's 1940 animated musical film, here's a scene between Pinocchio, his loving father Geppetto, and their adorable cat Figaro.

Deadline reports the film will be less of a retelling of the 1940 movie, and will draw inspiration from the 1883 book by the Italian writer Carlo Collodi instead.

While we still don't know who is set to direct the film, the screenplay will be penned by director-screenwriter Peter Hedges (The Odd Life of Timothy Green, About a Boy).

This is far from the only Pinocchio remake, animated and live-action, that has been made or is in the making. Back in 1956, a young Mickey Rooney portrayed Pinocchio in the musical TV movie.

Most Millennials might remember teen heartthrob Jonathan Taylor Thomas playing the marionette in The Adventures of Pinocchio (1996). In 2002 Oscar-winner Roberto Benigni played him in a live-action Italian version, and we all remember how important Pinocchio was to Shrek and his friends in the DreamWorks pictures.

Currently, Pacific Rim and Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro is working on a darker stop-motion 3D movie inspired by Collodi's book. In 2012, del Toro agreed to co-write the film with Matthew Robbins (Crimson Peak, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark) and co-direct with Mark Gustafson (Fantastic Mr. Fox's animation director).

So who do I think should be cast in Disney's live-action Pinocchio? Here are a few of my personal choices:

CJ Adams as Pinocchio

You might know CJ Adams from Dan in Real Life or The Odd Life of Timothy Green, both of which were written by Pinocchio screenwriter Peter Hedges. I'd say it wouldn't be unreasonable for Hedges to go with an actor that he's worked with before.

Richard Dreyfuss as Gepetto

After acting in so many phenomenal films like Jaws and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, I think Dreyfuss could play just about anyone. But after seeing him in Mr. Holland's Opus, I know for a fact that he can play the loving father role to a tee.

Tom Hanks as Jiminy Cricket

As an absolute treasure, Tom Hanks pretty much already plays the role of the guiding conscious of the whole of the United States (and likely beyond). Who doesn't love Tom Hanks? I know he's a busy guy, but if he could voice Jiminy Cricket it would make my heart soar.

As always, those are just a few of many, many options. Let me know who you guys would want to see cast in the comments section!

Let's do a quick headcount. The live-action movies that Disney officially has slated for production are as follows: Jon Favreau's [The Jungle Book](movie:1038643), [Beauty and the Beast](movie:362071) starring Emma Watson and Steven, Mulan, a Tim Burton directed [Dumbo](movie:1697212), [Pinocchio](movie:202487), and the rumored Winnie-the-Pooh movie. Phew! Looks like Disney fans have a pretty full few years ahead.

Are you excited to see a new Pinocchio, or should Disney ease up on the live-action remakes?
