Now, Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige may recently have revealed that there isn't going to be a post-credits scene in the imminently arriving Avengers: Age of Ultron, but, thankfully, that doesn't mean we won't see some sort of bonus action in the film's credits.

As Kevin Feige put it, "there will be a tag" - which suggests we will still something more than just the movie itself. After all, it really wouldn't be a Marvel movie without some sort of sting in the tail...

That mid-credits presence, though, raises a pretty big question:

Just What Will We See in the Avengers: Age of Ultron Mid-Credits Scene?

Will it, for instance, be something along the lines of Iron Man's classic introduction to the Avengers Initiative...

...opening up a whole world of future cinematic possibilities - or will it be more enigmatic, like the conclusion of Iron Man 2...

...teasing a very particular character, set to arrive in the near future.

Well, there's only one way to find out - and that's to wait for May 1st. In the meantime, though - here are seven of my leading candidates:

7. The Ant-Man Cometh

A fairly obvious option for Marvel would be to include a tease for its other summer release, Ant-Man. Were they to do so, you'd have to imagine they'd incorporate another brief scene in too - so as to avoid the kind of mild disappointment a lot of fans felt at X-Men: Days of Future Past's relatively lifeless post-credits reveal.

6. A Whisper of Wakanda

Alternatively, the tease could come in the form of our first glimpse of the nation of Wakanda - home to the T'Challa, The Black Panther (a.k.a. Chadwick Boseman, above).

He is, after all, set to feature in 2016's Captain America: Civil War - so a brief visit to his homeland, and introduction to him, wouldn't be an unreasonable thing to expect to see.

5. A Spectacular Spider-Cameo

Less likely - but possibly too enticing for Marvel to turn down - is an appearance from everyone's favorite wall-crawler, Spider-Man. Since Marvel and Sony's deal to bring the hero to the MCU was only finalized a few months back, and they don't seem to have actually cast the role yet, a full appearance seems out of the question - but a subtle tease in the form of webbing, or a costumed look at the hero? It's possible.

A shock, mid-credits reveal of the casting may be less so - but how cool would that be?

4. Something...Marvel-ous

Now, Kevin Feige may have revealed that Captain Marvel won't be appearing in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but that doesn't mean I'm giving up hope of seeing Carol Danvers in the movie. After all, Feige technically only said that Captain Marvel wouldn't appear - not her as-yet-unpowered alter ego.

A new role - and a surprise introduction - as Tony Stark's military liaison, perhaps?

3. The Light Than-tastic

Of course, we could also see the long-standing plot thread tying the Avengers to Thanos continue - and though it seems as if the impact of the cameo might be lessened through familiarity, that might not be the case if it were combined with:

2. Warlock Rising

After all, the cosmic hero Adam Warlock seems all but certain to appear in Avengers: Infinity War. Could this be the moment to introduce him to the widest - Guardians of the Galaxy-surpassing - audience possible?

A fractionally opening cocoon, perhaps?

1. A Whole New World

Alternatively, there's the mid-credits scene that's both been most heavily rumored, and would arguably make the most sense: the revealing of a new team of Avengers.

Now, that could well happen within the movie itself - and there's every reason to believe that the line-up of the team will be substantially altered by the film's close - but could we also see one of the leading Avengers form their own, covert team, too?

Say, Captain America's Secret Avengers - with a hint of Daredevil, and perhaps even some new faces, thrown in for good measure?

Here's hoping...

What do you reckon, though?
