It's no surprise Marvel are also trying to interconnect all their television properties into one big happy superhero filled live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe family.
For example, news has just emerged that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will also have small crossovers with the recently released Daredevil Netflix series. According to IGN, the Absorbing Man (a.k.a. Carl "Crusher" Creel) will have a small 'cameo' in an episode of Daredevil.
Netflix released the above image which suggested Daredevil's father, boxer Battlin' Jack Murdock, would go into the ring with an opponent named Carl Creel. Although Marvel would not confirm the connection when the image was first released, Marvel Television executive Jeph Loeb has now come forward to explain things. He told IGN:
If you look at it, there's actually a very critical line, which is, 'Battlin' Jack is doing very well against a much younger fighter. So the idea is, we looked at it from the point of view of, Mike Tyson was the heavyweight champion when he was 18 years old. [Brian Patrick Wade], who plays him in the show, looks like he's in his mid-30s, so there was enough time for us to be able to say, 'There's no reason why that isn't the same person.'
However, Loeb also has a more intimate connection to this story, as it was he who first pitted Jack Murdock and Carl Creel against each other in Daredevil: Yellow. He added:
That is that story. I get to smile a little bit because I was the first one who put Crusher Creel in the fight with Jack Murdock in Daredevil: Yellow. It exists there, so it's in the comics.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays at 9:00 on ABC, while Daredevil hits Netflix on April 10.
