While the information surrounding No Man's Sky continues to become ever less cryptic in terms of its actual gameplay, there's one aspect that Hello Games and Sean Murray haven't really enlightened us on; ourselves. During the E3 trailer and other such demonstrations of the game, Hello Games have managed to keep all other players out of sight.
But you may be wondering what this has to do with the title of this here article. Well, we have a theory about what exactly we'll all look like in No Man's Sky on its release date for the PS4 and PC, but it seems Steven Spielberg gave us our character back in 1982 with the release of his E.T. The Extraterrestrial!
No Man's Sky & Steven Spielberg's E.T.
Thanks to the wonders of the internet, and redditor Ha7den specifically, it has just come to our attention that we'll all be taking the role of this loveable little alien when we venture out into the wild expanses of the universe on NMS' release date. Allegedly E.T. spawned a spinoff novel back in the 80s (I'm sure it's a sensational read...) which gave a glimpse of background to the little guy.
But actually the film gives us enough information already. E.T. was actually just on a mission to observe and collect samples of plant life from the planets that he arrived on. WE ARE E.T.! No Man's Sky is predominantly an exploration game, one that will allow us to collect plants, but not much else in terms of interacting with the worlds around us. But what will we look like?
No Man's Sky - What Will Players Look Like?
Seeing as every element of the game is procedurally generated on the PS4 and PC, right down to the ships that we drive, I think it's fair to say that all of the players will be generated this way too. Now, Hello Games have informed us that we'll be wearing suits at all times in No man's Sky. Therefore, the procedural generation may only affect our suit rather than giving us a race and a face.
Which is a bit disappointing I guess, because I'd really like to see someone actually look a bit like E.T. too! But this of course means that the only way we'll be able to see ourselves is thanks to the efforts of other players! Hopefully fellow travellers will be kind enough to take pictures of one another and send them to each other so that we can uncover the mystery of our own looks.
What do you think we'll all look like in No Man's Sky? Could some of us actually be aliens? Or will it just be our suits that we see? In any case, hopefully we won't have to wait much longer for No Man's Sky's release date on the PS4 and PC (it's not that far away according to this magazine though)!
