Atlanta was originally called Terminus, and was developed primarily as a railroad town. The Walking Dead used this old warehouse in a train yard to create their version of Terminus.
The area in which the Terminus location exists is a bit sketchy, but I brought my 6' tall son with me, so it wasn't too scary. The entire area is fenced off, and is private property, and the owners will not let anyone take photos from the inside of the fence. This is because people are crazy, and the old warehouses throughout the train yard are in disrepair, making it a very dangerous place upon which to trespass with your young children (this actually happened). Also, make sure you've had your tetanus booster before you go near the fence.
The site itself is really easy to see from the top of the road and outside of the fence. It is right next door to a giant recycling plant that is also surrounded by a fence.
At one time, The Atlanta Motor Shop was here. Today, this area is primarily referenced as a Walking Dead filming site.
Among the rusty fences is plenty of room to get a clear shot of the majority of the filming location.
The filmmakers had to return the property to it's former glory after shooting, so the Terminus letters aren't there anymore.
There are random train cars throughout the property, such as the one pictured above. There are also a lot of seemingly random train tracks laid. I'm sure at one time it all made sense, though.
Around this bend is where THE boxcar is.
It is also where the back of the main warehouse can be seen.
Just past the back of the building is THE BOXCAR. You know, the cage of speculation and horror.
I MUST point out that the photos of the back of the warehouse, and of the box car, were taken by my tall son who has had his tetanus booster. The fence is old and rusty, and topped with older and rustier barbed wire.
People who visit this actual site and do not respect the fact that it is private property will most likely have a horrible fall on some rusty metal, break their arms, AND get tetanus. Oh yeah - they will also go to jail. Not the nice jail downtown, either - the Rice Street Jail. That place is a nightmare all in itself. So don't be an idiot or an asshole: stay off the property!
I hope you have enjoyed this Walking Dead themed Proxifan post. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions, or want me to go check out a specific filming location for you.
