Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is confirmed, but what hidden clues and secret reveals did you miss from the teaser? Here's a comprehensive round up of everything we know.
[Call Of Duty](movie:1068472) Black Ops 3 is confirmed and will be the next in the highly acclaimed Call of Duty series. Announced last week by Treyarch, Black Ops 3 will be the third edition in the Black Ops series. Black Ops is a sub-series to Activation's Call of Duty title.
Much of Black Ops plays out through the eyes of military (CIA) operative Alex Mason, this is primarily done through flashbacks. From the first teaser, released last week I was lead to believe that we could potentially be seeing a welcome return to the fields and forests of World War 2. The player would be lead through the campaign in a similar way as before via flashback from a Mason relative, grandfather perhaps.
"Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 deploys players into a dark, twisted future where a new breed of Black Ops soldier emerges and the lines are blurred between our own humanity and the technology we created to stay ahead, in a world where cutting-edge military robotics define warfare." - Treyarch
Alas, it now seems that we are destined to fight our battles in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, some time in the distant future. An almost Cyberpunk, Deus Ex theme seems to be emanating from the various cryptic clues.
A World War throwback would still be my number one choice but the Black Ops series has not failed me yet. The series is sharp and well executed, leading players to connect more with characters than they do in the alternate Call of Duty series. (Modern Warfare is the exception)
What can we deduce from the Latest Call of Duty: Black Ops teaser trailer?
Just one second into the opening of the trailer we soon come to realise that the video is entirely comprised of various numbers and letters that sweep and swirl across the screen. These letters and numbers seem random but at times give away vital clues to the future of Black Ops 3. Location coordinates dominate the teaser.
The first recognisable and semi legible sequence we see seem to be coordinates, the latitude and longitude read +1.300, +103.8000. These coordinates point specifically to a school in Singapore.
The second set of coordinates we see come in at 00:07, these Coordinates point to +30.0500, +31.2333.
This suggests that Black Ops 3 will be taking us all the way to North Africa. These coordinates point exactly to 6 October Bridge, Qasr an Nile, Cairo Governorate, Egypt.
It does seem to be a numbers game with Treyarch this year, at 00:24 another set of coordinates is displayed along the weapon body +47.3667, +8.5500.
Northern Switzerland is our next stop. This location again specifically points to a bridge in Zurich. Whats with all the bridges??
At 00:26 we start to see an image that begins to resemble the iconic Black Ops cover art soldier.
The concludes with the promise of the world reveal date of April 26 . Two weeks from now. Also, according to the source code of Call of Duties website, the following blurb has been picked out and leaked that reveals a little more on the potential story line of Black Ops 3.
"Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is the first title for next-gen hardware in the critically acclaimed Black Ops series. Developed by Treyarch, the award-winning creator of the two most-played games in Call of Duty history. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 deploys players into a dark, twisted future where a new breed of Black Ops soldier emerges and the lines are blurred between our own humanity and the technology we created to stay ahead, in a world where cutting-edge military robotics define warfare. With three unique game modes: Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies, providing fans with the deepest and most ambitious Call of Duty ever." - Treyarch webcode
It is a given that Call of Duty fans can connect their Xbox Live, PSN and Steam accounts on Call of Duty's website. It has now become apparent that Nintendo players can also connect their Nintendo Network ID to the website. It seems very likely that the third edition will be making its appearance on these systems following on from the first two Black Ops games that also featured on Nintendo consoles.
Does this really mean that the Black Ops 3 will be available on Nintendo systems?
Zombies will return!
Because you're never truly alive... Until you're out killing the undead. What is the best way to kill a zombie? Call of Duty Zombie labs are are here to help.
Still looking deeper into the teaser, the first indication to the return of the beloved zombie mode in Black Ops 3 comes as the number '115' floats repeatedly across the screen. Element 115 comes from the original Call of Duty story background, it is an element that was used to create the zombies but as one of its side effects was the reanimation of dead cells. The zombies were intended to be used as super soldiers for the Nazis armies.
The second indication comes with the arrival of the "Trident" image appearing center stage above on the teaser. The teaser continues to play as a large 'Z' appears followed by 'M, B, I, E, S.' As the trident image slides off the screen it intercepts the above lettering conveniently, sitting nicely for a millisecond between the 'Z' and the 'M' which spells out 'zombies' rather perfectly.
The third and most convincing indication of a gruesome zombie infestation comes as part of the leaked website source code from the official Call of Duty website that reads -
"With three unique game modes: Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies, providing fans with the deepest and most ambitious Call of Duty ever." - Treyarch webcode
Call of Duty: Black Ops were the first to introduce the brutality of the undead unto the world of Call of Duty fandom. Below I have included the Undead Labs videos of Black Ops Zombie testing. Its heavy stuff - Enjoy the extreme zombie gore!
The Call of Duty Zombie labs conduct a multitude of pretty barbaric tests in the name of science. They test the efficacy of new weaponry as well as the zombies ability to endure all manors of situations and environments including zero gravity.
The video below showcases an unnamed soldier testing the effects of the all new 'wave gun' (Black Ops only) on a live strung up zombie. As you may have just gathered, these videos were originally intended for release alongside call of Duty Black Ops.
Can a zombie learn? Tests are being conducted into the zombies ability to remember a simple sequence and solve extremely basic problems. As you will see in the video below these tests do not appear to show positive results as of yet.
What is next in the Call of Duty zombie series? Advanced Warfare have revolutionised the way we fight, fear and interact with the undead. What can Treyarch do next to make the zombie experience even more terrifying?
Activision and Treyarch will formally reveal Black Ops III on Sunday, April 26. The game will most likely release in November, and will be the brilliant follow-up to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
