She's one of the most powerful and loved women of Westeros, Cersei Lannister is just one of the major characters featured in the TV series Game of Thrones. As Queen Regent, Cersei has the power to rule over the Seven Kingdoms, but who could overthrow the most powerful woman in all of the country?
With the premier of the fifth season of [Game of Thrones](movie:817617), viewers got a glimpse into one of Cersei's flashbacks. The episode opened with a young and entitled Cersei Lannister coaxing a prophecy about her future from hermit witch Maggy the Frog. Maggy proceeds to predict that the Lannister princess will eventually become queen, have three children, that she will see die, and that she will be overthrown by a younger and more beautiful queen.
"Oh yes, you'll be queen...for a time. Then comes another, younger, more beautiful, to cast you down and take all you hold dear."
Who is this more beautiful queen you ask? Well it's pretty clear it refers to either Margaery Tyrell or Daenerys Targaryen.
These two others are equally as powerful as Cersei Lannister. But here's the reasons why they could easily overthrow Lannister as the most powerful women in Westeros.
Margaery Tyrell is the widow of King Renly Baratheon and King Joffrey Baratheon and she current wife of King Tommen Baratheon. When Tommen eventually comes of age, as queen, Margaery Tyrell could have a lot of power over Tommen. As seen in previous seasons, Margaery can be manipulative. This can be a powerful attribute for royal women in Kings Landing, allowing that they know how to use it correctly. She is an intelligent, rich and very attractive woman that wants to please Tommen in every aspect of the word.
Margaery's strength is in her ability to win the minds and loyalties of her subjects, has proven to be a threat to those who rival her family such as the Lannisters. Margaery possesses the tact and politeness that Cersei lacks. While Cersei is blunt and often rude, Margaery is capable of exuding the courtly behavior and courtesies expected of a queen - while still privately engaging in palace intrigues to increase her family's power.
Could Margaery be the next most powerful woman in Westeros?
Daenerys seems like a crowd favorite to finally sit on the iron throne, and I mean who wouldn't want Daenerys to sit on the throne she has everything a leader needs. She is polite and well-spoken, but filled with quiet determination. Her time amongst the Dothraki has taught her pride, confidence and skills of command. She is still somewhat naive of the world due to being young and living her life as an exile, but she is intelligent and quick to understand that she is free to pursue her own path.
Already we have seen Daenerys overthrow the leadership of slave cities, helping slaves to freedom. Could she do the same thing with Kings Landing?
Well for now, for those who haven't read the books, we have to sit back and wait to see who will eventually sit as the most powerful woman on the Iron Throne.
