Umm... are you going to drink that Skooma?

I am a huge fan of Katsuhiro Otomo's devastatingly incredible animated sci-fi epic Akira, it was one of the many movies I saw way too young. And then getting the chance to see the huge story unfold in the comic was like nothing I've ever read before. The art style is so painstakingly thorough and detailed. A work of uncontrollable beauty, much like Akira himself.

So it's no great surprise that the internet is full of homages to Otomo's crowning work, ranging from differing takes on that iconic poster, the sublime The Simpsons x Akira crossover Bartkira and this badass Doom x Akira crossover by brilliant artist jnkboy, which sees "Doomguy" amidst peril, albeit very stylish peril:

Isn't that amazing?! Now, imagine this as a stand alone comic... even more excited? Though, with this being Doomguy in the Tetsuo mold, whatever peril has befallen him would surely have been torn apart from bullets and telekinetic badassery by now, but let's not nitpick and just enjoy this beauty for what it is: awesome.

What do you think?
