When we heard, a few months back, that Daniel Cudmore wouldn't be returning to play Colossus in Deadpool, there was widespread disappointment among many fans. In part that was down to the fact that Cudmore never really got much of a chance to prove himself as the Russian X-Man, having been largely hamstrung by blink-and-you'll-miss-'em parts in the X-Movies, but it also had a lot to do with the fact that his absence suggested we might not actually be seeing Colossus in the movie at all, despite his appearance in early drafts of the script.

Well, there's good news, and there's bad news.

And neither of them involve pancakes, WADE.
And neither of them involve pancakes, WADE.

The bad news: it still very much seems as though Cudmore's appearance in the movie is as determinedly not-happening as ever.

The good news: It looks as though Colossus absolutely, definitely, is in the movie.

Because we've already seen him on set.

Yup, that's right:

Colossus Has Already Appeared on the Deadpool Set

Or, rather, a large burly man in a silver motion-capture suit has - and from the looks of these set images recently revealed by Just Jared...

...especially the large silver bust of a man's head they're using for framing and eyeline purposes...

...it sure does seem as though that's Colossus.

The big question now, though?

What's His Role in Deadpool?

Glaring ominously?
Glaring ominously?

Well, other than punching people - including, from the looks of things, Deadpool - while simultaneously being a near-unstoppable metal force-of-nature, there's not a whole lot the comics can tell us about Colossus' role in the movie.

After all, he and Deadpool haven't historically had a whole lot of involvement - read: barely any at all - suggesting that his involvement in the movie has a lot more to do with the character's appearances in the movies than the comics. Which, in turn, suggests that he's going to be on the receiving end of a whole lot of jokes about barely being in the movies, and being strikingly bland.

We still love you, Daniel...

In terms of his specific role within the plot, though - we might actually know a whole lot. Y'see, when the Deadpool script did the rounds a while back, a few key details came out about Colossus' role, and as it happens, they fit pretty perfectly with the set images we've seen thus far:

"After a freeway skirmish, Colossus has broken several of Deadpool's bones and has him handcuffed and dangling over another freeway below. Deadpool reaches up with a knife and cuts off his own arm. Colossus lets out a well-timed "Oh, man! Why?" before Deadpool makes the final slice and escapes."

Which, a) sounds awesome, and b) makes a whole lot of sense when you consider the fact that Colossus just made an appearance on the set of...a freeway skirmish.

So, it looks as though we will be seeing the big Russian after all, but that leaves one final question:
