Suicide Squad has the potential to be an outstanding film. This is mostly due in part to the cast that was chosen for the characters. Granted, there are some roles that I am still on the fence about, but there is no question that I am extremely excited for Margot Robbie being our Harley Quinn. This will be the first time we have seen a live action Harley Quinn since the short lived series Birds of Prey and the first time being on the big screen. They really hit the nail right on the head for me, and this increases this films potential insurmountably.

Everyone loves them some Harley Quinn. The Joker's crazy, lunatic of an accomplice and lover is arguably the most popular female villain in comics, if not the most popular female character there is. She is everything that we love about the Joker, a lot more ditsy, but still as sinister as they come. When it came to casting the role of Harley Quinn for [Suicide Squad](movie:2283363) I wasn't sure who could possibly fill that role. I was a big fan of Margot Robbie's work after her outstanding breakout performance in Wolf of Wall Street as Leonardo DeCaprio's significant other. She exhibited a great range of her acting prowess, and she showed her amazing ability to play a crazy and psychotic character. That is exactly what we need from an actress stepping up to the part of a character like Harley Quinn.

Why was there so much skepticism?

Surprisingly, there are a lot of people that don't think that she is the right person to play this role; a lot of people pointing out her lack of experience as a reason for why she should not be trusted with a role as big as Harley Quinn. While I can definitely understand the skepticism, I believe it is completely unnecessary. It's been so long since we have seen Harley Quinn in live action and the first we are seeing of her on the big screen, they really have to get it right. It is definitely a risk, but a necessary one. A lot of people aren't sure about her because we really don't know the direction that they will go in with the character. What will her costume be like? Will she be able to pull of Harley's voice? These are all very valid questions, but I am still very confident in her ability to pull it off.

Why was she the right choice?

Harley Quinn has always been a very attractive character. So it makes sense to get one of Hollywood's most attractive actresses to play her. She definitely has the look to play the role. Harley Quinn has always had a very, for lack of a better word, outlandish personality. Margot Robbie is one of the actor/actresses that are able to conform into any role their playing with absolute perfection. She makes every character she plays feel very genuine and realistic. She is really one of the best character actresses that you will find today. She should be able to pull of Harley Quinn's accent with perfection. She may even give it her own personal twist to it. You just sit back and look at an actress like Margot Robbie and she just has this energy about her that is rare to find. She brings an overwhelming energy on screen, this really enthusiastic and overzealous feel that you get, and that's exactly how I want to feel in the theater watching Harley Quinn.

They got it right for the long-term

Margot Robbie still has her prime acting years ahead of her. She is only 24 years young, it is apparent DC was also thinking about the long term. With reports Robbie signed a multi-film contract, this again shows why I believe she was the perfect choice. With Marvel continuously improving their cinematic universe, with plans for the next 5-6 years, it is great to see [DC](channel:932255) taking a similar initiative. They want to have actors to play these roles for some time to come and Margot Robbie is the absolute perfect example of this. She may not be the biggest star in Hollywood but she is definitely on the rise to becoming one of the top actresses in the world, she is going to bring star power to DC for years to come and I believe she is exactly what they need.

At the end of the day Margot Robbie will BE Harley Quinn

At the end of the day, I have no doubt in my mind that Margot Robbie will truly define the role of Harley Quinn. She will bring to us exactly the Harley Quinn that we want to see on the big screen. With a character with as much significance as Harley Quinn has, you have to be sensational in casting and executing the character. I think that is exactly what DC did in this situation.

I was going to do an entire section on other actresses that could possibly play this role and I couldn't think of anyone. Possibly someone like Angelina Jolie or maybe even Mila Kunis, but there just isn't anybody that I can say I would rather see as Harley Quinn. The significance of Harley Quinn in today's pop culture can not be understated. When you go about a character such as Harley Quinn you have to take calculated, yet necessary risks to give the fans more than just an average performance. Giving an actress such as Margot Robbie this significant of a role is definitely that. She is not the type of actress that seems to be intimidated by a role. She will go about this role with a tenacity and intensity that we need from our Harley Quinn. I am very confident in her ability to pull it off and I cannot wait to see if my predictions will come true. Mark my words, she will be absolutely terrific in playing our favorite doctor turned psychopath, Harley Quinn.

Suicide Squad is set to be released August 5, 2016.
