Music is part of what makes a horror film more terrifying. Many punk and heavy metal bands have used some of the most iconic characters and films of horror as inspiration for their band names, song and album titles and art. Some of those bands are fronted by some of the genre's heavy hitters, and some other genre favorites dabble in the musical arts on the side. Here are 10 genre actors, writers and directors with musical talents.

10. Jackson Rathbone

Rathbone is best known for his role in the Twilight Saga, but he has moved into more horror roles since the series' wrap. He was in the dark comedy Zombie Hamlet along side Jason Mewes and he was in the 2009 horror film Dread. Rathbone was a part of the band 100 Monkeys, but left the band when his wife announced her pregnancy. He now owns his own record company.

9. Adam Brody

Adam Brody is not synonyms with horror, but he has had roles in a few pretty awesome genre films like Jennifer's Body and The Ring. Brody joined the band Big Japan as their drummer. He is currently working with the band Shortcoats.

8. Sean Clark

Who is Sean Clark? To many, he is that guy in a black t-shirt with the spiky hair (which he did not copy from Zak Bagans, Sean did it first) with Norman Reedus at conventions. Sean is way more than that, he is a writer, director, producer and an all around great guy. He wrote and produced the film The Black Waters of Echo's Pond which starred Danielle Harris and Robert Patrick, He is the owner of Convention All Stars (he is responsible for fans getting to meet talent such as Norman Reedus, Sean Patrick Flanery and many more), and is the writer and star of Horror's Hallowed Grounds (he writes a column for HorrorHound Magazine by the same title) which takes horror fans back to the filming locations of their horror favorites. He is also pretty awesome on the drums and guitar. He played drums for a punk band called Malfunction (hence the twitter name @malfuncsean).

7. Corri English

Corri English is known to horror fans for her work on the horror sitcom Holliston and films like Unrest and the newly released Devil May Call (also starring Halloween's Tyler Mane). English is also the singer for the country band Brokedown Cadillac. The band's song 'Can You Hear Me' was featured on the season 2 finale of Holliston.

6. Jensen Ackles

Jensen Ackles is known mostly as the heartthrob Dean Winchester of the hit series Supernatural, and many horror fans know him from 2009's My Bloody Valentine 3D. Ackles is also very musically gifted, he can sing and play the guitar. He has been known to bust out into song here and there at conventions and in various episodes of Supernatural. He has performed with Jason Manns and Steve Carlson. He was also a part of The Impalas, a group formed by Ackles and fellow members of the Supernatural crew.

5. Henry Rollins

Known for his bad-ass attitude, Henry Rollins usually plays the tough guy or the villain. He has done work on the FX hit series Sons of Anarchy which has sadly wrapped and horror fans know him from Wrong Turn 2. Rollins has been in the music game much longer than film. His music career started in 1980 when he joined a Washington punk band called State of Alert. He is most commonly known for being the singer of Black Flag from 1981-1986. After his days in Black Flag, he went on to form the Rollins Band as well as a few solo releases.

4. Corey Feldman

What 80's film was Corey Feldman not in? Horror fans know him best as the adorable Tommy Jarvis of 1984's Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. After a battle with drug addiction, Feldman turned to music as a way to rebuild his image and career. He released a solo album and then went on to front the band called Corey Feldman's Truth Movement. He then released another solo album in 2002.

3. Nick Principe

Principe is best known for his role in the Laid To Rest films as the menacing Chromeskull. It turns out that not only his he gifted in the art of using knives and killing people, but he sings. Nick has joined forces with Rich DePetro, Jeremy Gravel and Donny Harvey to create the horror-themed, hardcore band, The Love and Suicide. Principe has been in other bands and has come on as a guest singer for others.

2. Ari Lehman

The very first Jason Voorhees from the 1980 slasher classic Friday the 13th not only has an awesome mustache, he is also a very gifted musician. He is trained in Classical Music and Jazz Piano, Lehman was presented with an All-State Award for Excellence in Jazz Piano and a scholarship to Berklee School of Music by jazz educator, Dr. Billy Taylor. Lehman has worked on several soundtracks for independent films. He is currently the lead vocalist for his horror-metal, First Jason, in which he also plays the keytar.

1. Adam Green

Adam Green was the lead singer of the heavy metal band Haddonfield based out of Salem, Massachusetts from 1997-2000. He also worked as the DJ for the world famous Rainbow Bar & Grill on the Sunset Strip when he first moved to Los Angeles.
