In my Writing Workplace class in high school my teacher showed us a film called 2001: a space odyssey. Now he warned us that it was going to be very slow pace and not much action. As he turn the lights off and hit the play button most of the kids already had their heads on the desk. I for one never seen this movie so I decided to give it a shot. After 2hr 41min my life changed. I have now understood that movies can be seen as a work of art other than entertainment.
I decided to fine out who directed amazing film. I read the back of the DVD case and found out that the director is name Stanley Kubrick.
What is there to say about this man that has not been said already? Visionary, controversial, genius, private, photographer, husband, and father. I would put, "Greatest Filmmaker in cinema!" Now I know that is huge to say. With the likes of John Ford, Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg, or Robert Altman respectfully earn the same title.
However what separates Mr. Kubrick from the rest is he always makes a film different than his previous work. He never does the same thing over and over. One film he would direct the greatest Sci-Fi picture and introduce us to HAL 9000, then he would direct one of the most controversial picture and introduce us to Alex Delarge. Never do anything twice is Stanley Kubrick.
Stanley Kubrick has passed away on March 7, 1999 but his legacy lives on through his pictures and people that were lucky enough to work with him. You can watch movies for the fun of it, but when you watch a Stanley Kubrick film you leave the theater in all. No one can make films like Mr. Kubrick and that is why I made this post. Thank you Stanley Kubrick for your vision and your storytelling.
