There are a list of classic films that I have not seen and I am ashamed that I haven't seen them (including The Godfather), today I crossed one of those films of that list; Gladiator. Gladiator is a film about a roman general who is sent to be executed but escapes and becomes a gladiator who then challenges the emperor, Gladiator is directed by Ridley Scott and stars Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Derek Jacobi and Djimon Hounsou.
There are a lot of positives to this film, which include: outstanding acting, a great story, good story progression and fantastic action. To expand, the acting in this film is very good especially Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix and how they play off each other; the story is very good, intriguing and told at the right pace. Also the film takes different turns in the plot which I didn't expect and up until a certain point I thought the film was predictable but the film didn't go the way I thought; the action is great all the scenes are expertly shot and fun to watch, how can I forget the line after the first gladiator battle 'Are you not entertained?' which has gone down in cinema history as a great quote. There is only one negative to this film and that is that I didn't feel emotionally attached to the characters.
Overall this film is fantastic and a classic (which I now know why) and taking everything into consideration I rate this film:
