Trawling through the Internet the other day, I stumbled upon a fascinating little theory put forward by Reddit user psquare704.
It focuses on Disney's Big Hero 6 and draws an intriguing parallel with Fred and Daphne from Scooby-Doo.
Now, before you delve right in to what the theory proposes, bear in mind that psquare704 admits to not having read the comics, referring simply to the film versions.
The family portrait in Fred's Mansion
Noticing the family portrait hanging in Fred's mansion (despite noticing the sneaky homage to Stan Lee, too!), the Redditor began to draw some similarities between comic book enthusiast Fred from Big Hero 6 and the monster-busting duo in Scooby-Doo.
Here are some supporting ideas for the theory:
- Fred is obsessed with monsters, which is completely reasonable from a child of members of Mystery, Inc.
- Fred's father is established as being away almost all the time. So his personality could be the result of spending a lot of time with Uncle Shaggy.
- It's not unreasonable that Fred & Daphne are rich after all their escapades. The book and movie rights alone could take care of that.
- He quickly concludes that their masked villain is probably somebody they've already met. He even gets the wrong guy the first time around. Experience from the stories of his parents adventures?
So, could all of this point to the fact that Big Hero 6's Fred is in fact Fred and Daphne's son?
Although I am not convinced, it is certainly an interesting idea to consider.
