The Mass Effect universe is a diverse haven for gamers and anyone that loves science fiction. The depth of the lore and characters that inhabit the many planets the series explores, is glorious. For many gamers, Mass Effect is one of the greatest experiences in gaming we've had in years, and has even been called the Star Wars of our generation.

Therefore, with so much praise, and such a devoted fan base surrounding this fascinating world, it seems almost predestined that [Mass Effect](movie:589200) receives its own movie at some stage. But with TV series being created at such a rapid speed lately, I wonder whether this RPG landscape would be more suited to an episodic format. Let's explore the potential for the release date of a Mass Effect TV series or Movie accompanying Bioware's Mass Effect 4.

Could Mass Effect 4 Coincide With An ME Movie or TV Series?

Halo 5 is the only example that I can currently think of in the video gaming world that has a TV series coinciding with its release. [Halo: Nightfall (Digital Feature)](movie:1427493) gives us some background information and insight into the characters that we'll be playing with come October this year on XBOX One. But let's not forget, we also have Steven Spielberg Halo project to look forward to on the horizon!

Therefore, the idea of Bioware promoting Mass Effect 4 with the presence of an ME TV series isn't that unlikely. But what would you prefer ME fans if you were given the choice? Would you like to see a once off movie on the big screen for Mass Effect? Or spend a good few hours in front of the TV enjoying a more in-depth TV series? Which release date appeals to you more?

Mass Effect Movie Before Mass Effect 4

The idea of a Mass Effect movie is equally enticing and worrying. What makes the series so remarkable is the choice elements that are bestowed upon the players. If a Hollywood production company took charge of Mass Effect, all we'd see would be the most obvious and boring Paragon options selected for the screenplay. Mass Effect can be about mistakes and I don't think that a big budget movie would be willing to incorporate them.

Additionally, this is such an enormous world that cramming a lot of its lore, races and events into one film wouldn't really work. They'd have to invest in a trilogy, but if the film wasn't successful we'd be left with one average Mass Effect film and no sequels. Obviously not what we want to happen.

Mass Effect TV Series

That's not to say that we couldn't get a good Mass Effect movie, it's just highly unlikely. Personally, I feel this massive RPG landscape is far more suited to a TV series. This way, we could see characters on the paragon and renegade paths, and those that mix the two. We could see the ramifications of bad choices on many characters, rather than focusing on just one.

It would also give the series a chance to demonstrate the full extents of its lore and fascinating races. We could see the universe through the eyes of a Salarian, Turian or Krogan as well as a human. Also, this probably a far more likely option in terms of what could accompany Mass Effect 4 on its release date!
