[Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.](series:722469) may not have hit the ground running like Daredevil did, but now it's charging forward at a massively entertaining speed. It seems to have become Marvel's secret weapon, one that most people look over and regret it.
Because of several little details (I'll explain below), I'm starting to get the feeling that Marvel has yet another shocking, earth shattering reveal coming any moment now. What could it be? Read on to find out.
A New Spin-Off
Marvel and ABC officially announced an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off show. Whether not this show will be a full fledged show as opposed to a mini-series (like Agent Carter) remains to be seen. Regardless, it will be either a fall 2015 or midseason 2016 premiere (according to EW).
According to EW the pilot for this new spin-off show will be built off of the storylines in the latter half of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. What could this mean? Well, a couple of things. I'll go over the different possibilities in just a second.
The other thing to think about is that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is relatively new, being only in it's second season. There's not much to work with, which will narrow down the possibilities for what the new spin-off could be. It won't be anything having to do with the Defenders (Netflix has that covered) and it'll probably have nothing to do with the Avengers (the MCU movies have that covered).
One of my first thoughts was that the new spin-off show could be Inhuman based. After all, the Inhumans have somewhat taken over Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., put everyone in S.H.I.E.L.D. in danger, and possibly have started a mini Civil War. It's easy to say that the show is still heavily focused on Phil Coulson and his work with S.H.I.E.L.D. but you could also argue that the Inhumans are starting to distract the show from what it's intended purpose really is: telling Coulson's story.
This is why I think that there is a good chance that the new spin-off is centered on the Inhumans. It'd make for a very awesome show, but there's a couple small problems with this idea. First, Marvel has a movie devoted to the Inhumans coming out in the future, which would make it almost repetitive to have a TV show for them too. When Inhumans was announced, we were all happily surprised because the Inhumans are awesome comic book characters.
Second, it'd be hard to make a really good Inhumans TV show without an enormously large budget. Yeah, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s special effects and supers are getting better, but there's still a tone of low budget to the show. If you've ready any of the Inhumans comics, then you'll know that most of the Inhumans have crazy looking features and powers. It'd be hard to find the finances to make that kind of TV show.
[Marvel's Agent Carter](series:1119765)
The other possibility is that the spin-off is a full fledged Agent Carter TV show. Agent Carter massively succeeded on all fronts, even though it had just a few episodes to tell it's story. Haley Atwell, James D'Arcy, Chad Michael Murray, and all the other very talented cast made for some perfect characters, good and bad.
So it wouldn't be hard to believe that Marvel was ready to throw Agent Carter back into action...and this time for an entire season. There's much more we'd love to know about her and the Howling Commandos. Plus, Marvel left us with a nail-biting end-credits scene on the last episode. That could make for an amazing season 2 beginning!
Daisy Johnson And The Secret Warriors
I'm putting every chip on the idea that Marvel is setting us up for The Secret Warriors. Who are the Secret Warriors you might ask? Here's what Marvel says:
Secret Warriors is a Marvel series featuring Nick Fury and Team White, a team of superpowered agents in the Marvel Comics Universe.
Now, we know most of the MCU draws heavily from the comics, but tweaks details here and there. So while this whole idea may not be scene for scene, word for word accurate to the comic Secret Warriors, I think Marvel could be setting up their own MCU Secret Warriors.
The biggest clue is Skye a.k.a. Daisy Johnson. Marvel could have gone in a whole ton of different ways with Skye during the middle of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but instead they went with Daisy Johnson a.k.a. Quake.
Just briefly, Quake is a super-powered Inhuman with the power to create earthquakes and seismic activity. She is extremely powerful even though she does not yet know it.
In the comics, Daisy Johnson has worked for Nick Fury, became leader of the Secret Warriors, become leader of S.H.I.E.L.D., and even eventually becomes an Avenger. So already we have the biggest factor needed to make the Secret Warriors. In fact we have more than one factor. Here's a list of all the "Coincidences" that make Secret Warriors more than a viable option.
- Skye a.k.a. Daisy Johnson a.k.a Quake has powers now and is learning to control them
- Nick Fury exists
- Nick Fury's safehouses exist
- Nick Fury has safehouses all over the globe to house super-powered individuals
- Coulson is hiding a secret from even his own team
- Coulson seems to be working with Nick Fury
- Coulson's building a huge, underground fortress to help train super-powered individuals
- The toolbox Nick Fury gave to Coulson could be the essential ingredient to Secret Warriors
- Coulson wants super-powered individuals to help S.H.I.E.L.D. unlike others who want to kill them
So...yeah seems like the stars are aligning! These and many other tiny Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. easter eggs are making it almost crystal clear that something will be announced during the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finale. I believe it will be as big or even bigger as the Hydra takeover and the Inhuman plot-twist.
So. Are you anxious to find out what's in Coulson's toolbox? I am. But I trust he has a good reason to hide it. I'm with him. What about you?
