All right, I'm basically the sworn enemy of the "hashtag" (I meam seriously, it's a "pound sign") but this #ThreeGames thing looked fun. This is by no means a complete list for me, but these three games are definitely on the top of the list of gamechangers.
1. Batman: Arkham Series
Ok, I kinda cheated on this one, with now a fourth Batman game in this series slated for release this year, but I really feel that the whole series has brought something new to the table. Everything changed for Batman with Arkham Asylum. The game introduced unparelled stealth tactics and combat techniques that Batman games had not previously seen, as well as a dark, gritty tone and awesome, classic characters. Overall each installment in the series has introduced new elements and mechanics each time, getting better and better all the way. It all started, however, with the classic Batman: Arkham Asylum.
2. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
Yes, I am a CoD fanatic. We could go for hours about Battlefield versus CoD, but Battlefield just never did it for me. One of the things that made Advanced Warfare so great was the new Exo Suits. Almost everybody agrees that the previous installment in the series, "Ghosts", was a misfire for Call of Duty, and we were all dying to see something fresh and new. AW delivered. The new movements are great, the maps are stellar, the zombie experience feels fresh, new weapon types are exciting, and if you play the campaign mode, Kevin Spacey made a pretty good villain. All in all, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is a spectacular game in my book.
3. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
This game rocked. Sure it was a bit of a departure from the traditional feel of the Assassin's Creed series, but the piracy flare was so great that I didn't care. Who WOULDN'T love sailing the seas blowing up random ships, exploring beautiful islands, ransacking guarded warehouses full of supplies, taking on side missions and hunting whales and sharks? Oh, and there's a story and stuff too. The visuals were stunning, the gameplay was great, and the setting was awesome. In the end, it's a pirate's life for me!
