Sometimes when it comes to comic books and comic book movies, the more obscure, the better. This is the case with a few titles that have been eyed for film or television. One such comic, The Mighty, could be the next property to make the jump from page to screen if some producer or director decided to go for it. Oh wait...a studio already did...in a way. Paramount purchased the film rights to the DC comic imprint some time ago but no new information has been revealed about the project. The comic essentially revolved around the America's first and only superhero,Alpha-One,who goes rogue as the police force who once supported him must figure out a way to bring him down. Don't have to look very hard to see shades of superman in this story.
Here's the plot synopsis:
Welcome to the world of The Mighty! Alpha One – America’s first and only Super Hero – is supported by Section Omega, an entire police force devoted to assisting him in his quest for justice. Lt. Gabriel Cole has worked his way up the ranks of Section Omega and his connection to Alpha One reaches back to his own tragic childhood and an accident nobody could have survived. But when murder strikes at the top of the organization, the case falls into his lap, and he’ll begin to learn what being a hero is really all about!
Once again, this would be another comic book that dares to explore what happens when a superman-like character begins to act on behalf of himself and becomes corrupted. Not only that, but this is a character who had an entire police force to back him up as a support team. Then there's the friendship Alpha-One had with one of the lieutenants on the force, who regularly spent time with the hero when he wasn't out patrolling the city. A film that explores a hero's descent, fall from grace, and relationship with law enforcement could be a pretty fascinating, compelling on-screen story. Now, all Paramount has to do is get on it before people lose interest. Stay tuned for more updates if and when they become available.
