Over the last couple of weeks, there has been a lot of speculation as to whether Amanda Waller (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) and Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett) were being excluded from Arrow due to the movie, "Suicide Squad", which is coming out in 2016. This speculation has increased because of recent comments by Manu Bennett and because of the recent news that Deadshot (Michael Rowe), would not be returning to Arrow. Manu Bennet's comments were:
"I think Deathstroke had a lot of possibilities with Arrow but, I think they took it in the wrong direction"
"It took the Justice League to defeat him; it took an army to take him on. In Arrow, it took a while for Oliver [Queen/Arrow] to prove his point, but [season three] was just a beating of Slade, adding insult to injury"
These comments are understandable considering Deathstroke's notorious reputation in the comics compared to being defeated by Oliver and Thea in the episode, "The Return". Many fans of the show took this to mean that he would not be returning. Arrow's Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim shed some light on the situation.
This is what Marc Guggenheim told reporters in regard to Slade Wilson:
"I haven’t been informed that he’s off the table. We have Slade Wilson ideas, and we talk about it… I know that Manu [Bennett] is shooting another TV show in New Zealand, so there are some practical things, but he’s not off the table, at least as far as I’m aware"
Marc Guggenheim then addressed the absence of Amanda Waller that had been felt by many fans. Many fans assumed that Amanda Waller would have a large presence in the flashback scenes due to the flashbacks being related to Argus, but that has not been the case, as she has hardly been seen in the last 5 episodes except for a few minutes on screen.
Marc Guggenheim told reporters:
"Amanda’s not off the table, either. Cynthia is wonderful. She’s a great actress. The challenge that we had with her this season was that she was first on a show called Texas Rising, and then once that finished, she went over to a movie called The Accountant, and Arrow was always in second position because she’s not a series regular. So, you probably felt us working around her availability. But we love her, and we have a story idea for her for Season 4. Anything’s possible"
These answers by Marc Guggenheim are very welcome especially regarding Slade Wilson, who was, in my opinion, one of the best characters on Arrow. I'm also happy they seem to have a story for Amanda Waller in season 4. So far I'm not really sure what to think of her as we haven't seen enough of her yet. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed it.
