So here it is finally, yeah I do know the trailer got leaked ahead of the schedule but I didn't wanna talk about it or share it with anyone, because that's not how it is supposed to be watched, c'mon it's Batman v Superman for god's sake, and I was really pissed off when media outlets and writers were sharing and talking about a LEAKED trailer, that's not how we show respect to the people who hand crafted this movie or any movie if that's case, but enough with this, now I'll jump right into breaking down this awesome trailer and giving you people the much needed insight. But before that let's watch the trailer once to ensure we are on the same page.

That's a great trailer not just from the visual POV but even from a thematic/story POV, now let me explain.

Theme of the movie

Yes there is a very intense, serious, dark and gritty feel to this trailer but when we look past that there are some interesting philosophies in this trailer, because we see the the world split in two, one side of it supporting Superman and the other side hating him for everything.

This is what Pro Superman team says,

Maybe he's just a guy trying to do the right thing.
He has a population on this planet having looking for a savior.
They are not telling us the truth.

And this is what the Anti Superman team says,

Power corrupts. And absolute power corrupts absolutely.
This is our planet. Go away, go away, go away.
Humans have a terrible track record of following people with great power.
We are talking about a being, who's very existence challenges our sense of priority in this universe.
He is out of control.

And this is what the Neutral team says,

Isn't it really surprising .... that the most powerful man in the world shouldn't be a figure of controversy.
The world is so excited about what he can do that no one has asked what he should do.

And all these conversations are from media and regular people debating about this being known as Superman, it's exactly from the The Dark Knight Returns comic book and it feels very very realistic, because that's how the world would react to a global situation like this, everyone would be freaking out and will take sides and thus I believe, Zack Snyder & Co have found a perfect way to make this movie sound really grounded and real life.

But this brings us back to what happened in Man of Steel. To be more accurate, it brings us back to what Jonathan Kent (Earth father) of Superman and Perry White (Chief Editor of Daily Planet) said.

Wise father

Maybe; but there's more at stake here than our lives or the lives of those around us. When the world... When the world finds out what you can do, it's gonna change everything; our... our beliefs, our notions of what it means to be human... everything. You saw how Pete's mom reacted, right? She was scared, Clark.
You just have to decide what kind of a man you want to grow up to be, Clark; because whoever that man is, good character or bad, he's... He's gonna change the world.
Wise editor.
Wise editor.
Can you imagine how people on this planet would react if they knew there was someone like this out there?

They even have a statue erected in honor of Superman for saving the planet from extinction during the events of Man of Steel.

But people are also rioting against Superman and did this,

So we arrive at an inescapable conclusion that, Pa Kent and Perry White were right about what would happen

So I believe this is a movie about Superman and he finding his place on this planet and having to earn his name the hard and rewarding way, and not just being labelled by the media or people with a nickname.

The God allegories

This was one of the most interesting thing that I found in this trailer, because there are some people who are looking up to Superman as some God or a Messiah.

Did you spot the "S" emblem on soldiers
Did you spot the "S" emblem on soldiers

Apparently there seems to be a strike force in honor of Superman and they seem to respect Superman, or is this a dream sequence?

Messiah from sky ???
Messiah from sky ???

And when I started thinking about it, it makes absolute sense, I mean people are looking up to him as a savior of mankind and stuff because of what he did and if anyone showed up on Earth with that kinda power, I am pretty sure that there will be a sizable bunch of population that would start following that god like figure, for the kind of power and amazing feats he capable of doing. Again a pretty realistic story telling.

Fun Fact: DC universe has some heavy story telling elements based on a concept known as new gods and old gods, so is this godly portrayal a subtle reference to that concept, which we may end up seeing in the DC movies down the line.

But Superman clearly doesn't understand why people are reacting in such a way,

Look at his face, he's clearly confused as to why people are looking up to him as a god or messiah like figure, when all he wanted to do was to help and save people, So he's about selflessness not fame or corrupted sense of pride.

This movie takes place all around the world, if not certain parts of the world.

His suit is certainly way more brighter
His suit is certainly way more brighter

Supes is holding an object which looks like a Russian warhead, Putin is gonna be pissed, Blue man. Another reference to The Dark Knight Returns story line.

And these people are Mexican and those face paint they are wearing are connected to a festival that is followed in Mexico, which is known as Day of the dead, a day to remember the family and friends who have died, most probably reflecting the events of Man of Steel.

Metropolis is reconstructed but there are still some construction work going on.

Notice this Superman park and the skyline, all this points out to Metropolis being reconstructed but as you can see there is also a construction crane on the upper left of this picture, so some construction works are still going on.

Ground zero
Ground zero

This picture is from the Man of Steel blu ray special and it showcases the destruction done to Metropolis, I have to say it's extremely minimal as rest of the city is still standing tall, so did the government use this ground zero to construct the Superman monument ? who knows......

Chris Terrio did one helluva job

If you don't know who he is, Terrio is an Oscar award winner for adapted screenplay and he was hired to rewrite the script for this movie.

Even though this is just a teaser trailer with 2 minutes and 13 seconds of length, it is filled amazing dialogues and quotes, for example.....

We know better now don't we ? devils don't come from hell beneath us, they come from skies

And that's a quote from Lex Luthor and I gotta say Jesse's Lex Luthor voice sounds downright evil and menacing just like his looks......

And then we hear Jeremy Irons Alfred say,

That's how it starts. The fever. The rage. The feeling of powerlessness. Turning good men......... cruel.

Is it directed at Batman, Lex Luthor or the population of Earth, but it applies to everyone I guess.

And we also hear Batman say,

Tell me. Do you bleed....... You will.

I gotta say that's the best live action Batman voice I have ever heard.

Sounds pretty much like a Superman movie right, well let's jump to the Dark Knight side of things.

Batman The Dark Knight

Unfortunately there isn't much to discuss about Batman, because the trailer didn't reveal much about the Dark Knight or his reason to go up against Superman, maybe it's because this is just the first trailer, anyways let's examine the shots of Batman from this trailer.

Bruce Wayne is really pissed, his eyes are filled with rage, but is he standing in the Bat cave? because it look as if he is staring at the Bat suit in the trailer and if he is indeed staring at his Bat suit, then what is that suit behind him, over his left shoulder, is it the rumored Jason Todd memorial costume.

That's definitely an easter egg for Riddler, the symbol looks exactly like his insignia and as we can see there is that "Joe" graffiti is that an easter egg to Joe Chill (murderer of Bruce's parents) or is it a reference to Joker ? And in the bottom left we can "Aphrodite" can that be a subtle easter egg for Wonder Woman. And interestingly enough we can see the name "Mona" on the right pillar and DC fans will know her by the full name of Mona Taylor in other words Queen of Spades from the Royal Flush Gang !

The cape has the iconic scalloped design for sure but is that a sniper rifle in his hand, but why is he having a sniper rifle ?

We have our first look at the Bat Plane and it looks sexy as hell just like the Batmobile. But as you can see the design matched the shape and size of Batmobile, to be more accurate the back side of the vehicle,

Especially those fins or whatever, and in the past there were rumors that the Batmobile can also transform into a Bat Plane just like the Batmobile from Frank Miller's All Star Batman and Robin.

Visually the most badass Batman yet.

I suggest you to take a closer look at this image, can you notice anything ? maybe this can help,

Notice the two bullet shots at his torso, it looks like this Bat suit is completely bullet proof.

Just look at him he's so huge and the costumes are one the best and truest ever designs from a comic book movie. Plus he's fcuking scary and creepy as hell.

This version of the Batman is a seasoned veteran, who's been doing his crime fighting for almost 2 decades and fittingly enough as you can see is costumes has those scar marks and evidences of his hard crime fighting career.
