The teaser for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice just came out, and before I launch into why it's a bad idea, let me compliment a little it first.

To be fair, the ideas that this teaser shows the movie will assuredly explore, are interesting ones. Can we really trust an alien who has all this power?, I heard an "absolute power corrupts absolutely" in there from Holly Hunter. Not really new concepts for Superman fans (see Red Son, Overman, Injustice, etc.) but definitely something new for mainstream audiences. Something that is always great to see from a superhero movie, especially in this market, is a fresh idea.

Nazi Superman, it was a thing, tell your friends.
Nazi Superman, it was a thing, tell your friends.

So that seems all well and good, until you ask the question, what the hell happened to Man of Steel Superman? You know, the symbol of hope? The guy who cried in Lois Lane's arms after murdering the last of his kind? Where is the Superman who, as a hardcore Batman fan, I finally started to warm up to?!

THIS GUY!
THIS GUY!

In this trailer it seems that we are shot forward in time, with the filmmakers expecting us to have a sufficient emotional connection to Superman. In this film Kal already has a statue, a fanclub, and a dedicated FOX News segment apparently.

Seriously, who are you people?
Seriously, who are you people?

And that's DC's main slip up. The fact that we spent years with the Marvel line-up, watching their stories unfold and cross over, all leading up to one incredible team-up, only to be promised more stories in the future?! Amazing. But here it seems as though DC is not only expecting us to now be attached to Superman as he will more than likely be a victim here (and if not, that's an even bigger mistake since he's the only one we are attached to in this universe), but they are also expecting us to be totally okay with this new Batman being a massive dick. Excuse my french.

All in all, it seems very rushed, and severely under developed, new mainstream concept, or not. Which brings me to by last question, where in the hell is Wonder Woman gonna fit in, as an intermediary? Oh no...

Boys, use your words.

So what did you think of the trailer, do you disagree with me? Let me know in the comments as I really want to know what the other side of this is. (I really just want this to be good!)
