A couple of hours ago we were treated to a brand new Fantastic Four trailer, as you can see above. For lack of the better word, the trailer was absolutely amazing. Easily one of the best trailers I have seen so far this year. This is definitely putting the Fantastic Four movie back on the map, especially in my eyes. There were a couple of points I would like to elaborate on that made this trailer special.
The Thing looks ridiculous!
One of the biggest things that stuck with me after the trailer is how amazing The Thing looks. As soon as we see Ben Grimm transfigure to The Thing I was mesmerized. It was such a step up from the 2005 Fantastic Four film, where I was not a big fan of the appearance of Thing. He always looked a bit like plastic, he looked like a very cheap Ben Grimm action figure. This new Thing however, is the way The Thing should look on the silver screen. The cracks in his body are very definite and detailed, you can see every rock with absolute clarity. You also see a couple instances of him in action and I must say it looked damn good.
All Hail Dr. Doom!!
We have finally seen our first real glimpse of the new Dr. Doom. While it was only flashes, it is enough to get any Fantastic Four fan, or any fan for that matter, excited. Lets start off with the costume. We didn't exactly get an in depth look at the costume but from what I saw i'm definitely a fan. The mask is quite interesting, they seem to be taking a different approach, more of a darker, wore torn type of suit and i think it will work out exponentially for them. I wish we could have seen a bit more of the suit itself, but from the shadowy images that were given too us, I think it will be great.
Seems as if they got the cast right
I must admit, i was very adamant about the the choices of the cast, now that I have a seen a good sized trailer, my mind has been changed. The idea of a younger Fantastic 4 team seems to be working very well. There have been a lot of questions pertaining to if the Human Torch should be African-American, it really does not mater to me, if he can pull of the role I don't care about if it is true to the comics or not. He seems to really have that Johnny Storm attitude about him and aside from The Thing, i am most excited to see this new Human Torch in action. The direction that Fox seems to be moving with this film, especially cast wise, seems to be perfect for a revival of a somewhat dying franchise.
We were given hints to the Origin
We all know the original origin of the Fantastic Four. Reed Richards designs a space ship that is meant to go beyond our galaxy into the other worlds of space. He assembles a team consisting of his lover Sue Storm, her brother Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm. The team embarks on the journey and their ship crashes and they are exposed to extreme amounts of radiation that gives them their powers. It seems as if they are doing something very similar, except instead of a spaceship sending them to space, they are experimenting with inter dimensional travel. They are all laying on what seems to be medical tables and their powers are exhibited for the first time. It looks like it would be an interesting twist to the origin, they are trying to re-brand the franchise and do something new, this is very evident in the fact that Sue Storm is adopted and the choice of an African-American Johnny Storm. These changes I think will really freshen up the franchise and we will all leave the theater with a smile on our face.
This trailer should have everyone excited
With the release of this trailer, fans everywhere should be rejoiced in the fact that we will finally have a quality Fantastic Four film. Yes, while they may be veering away from the original Fantastic Four story with a couple of their own twists, I think it was necessary. They are really trying bring a modern twist on the the Fantastic Four and it seems to be working very well. There has not been much talk about the film, and if there has been it hasn't exactly been quite positive. I think this film has the potential to be amazing and really put it up there as a top tier superhero film. How could it not? with an awesome looking Thing, a bad ass Dr. Doom, and the fact that it is the complete opposite of the 2005 film, how could they go wrong? I joke, the original film was not that bad, but it does not live up to the standards that a superhero based film should be held to, this film however seems to be going above and beyond those standard to possibly set new ones. Superhero fans and movie fans alike, get ready, we may have a new king in terms of superhero films upon us.
