Think back to when you were seven-years-old and even more devoted to your burgeoning fandom than you are, or have the time for now. What were you into? What was it that made your tiny mental gears click into overdrive, and finally allowed your parental units a brief respite from miniature tomfoolery?
Now imagine writing a letter to the orchestrator of your favorite fandom about something utterly cute but of resolute importance to your young self, and then getting a reply! Man, imagine that...
Well lucky little seven-year-old Colin Gilpatric got the surprise of his life after writing a letter to the father of Lucasfilm, George Lucas, regarding his confusion over the role of the Jedi and their abstinence from romantic attachment for fear of becoming conflicted and giving into the Dark Side.
Feeling the buzz of his plethora of midichlorians, Gilpatric has a great desire to one day become a Jedi Knight. But he also hopes to one day be betrothed to somebody (how cute is that?!). But, as we all know, the Jedi live a very abstemious and solitary life, which offers up a huge problem for the little guy.
Being the forward thinking little legend he is, he posed a query to the master of all Jedi:
Dear George Lucas,
I don’t like that a Jedi cannot get married. I want to get married without becoming a Sith. Please change the rule.
P.S. I want to come to Skywalker Ranch please.
Lucasfilm sensed that the Force was strong within this Padawan, and hastily sent back a reply, full of Jedi mysticism and some goodies:
Thank you so much for writing to us with your question. It sounds like the Force is strong with you, and you are showing great wisdom by asking your question. To be a Jedi is to truly know the value of friendship, of compassion, and of loyalty, and these are values important in a marriage.
The Sith think inward, only of themselves. When you find someone that you can connect to in a selfless way, then you are on the path of the light, and the dark side will not take hold of you. With this goodness in your heart, you can be married.
We enclosed a few gifts that we hope you enjoy. Thank you again for writing to us.
May the Force Be With You!
Your Friends at Lucasfilm
Damn you, Lucasfilm! Sucker punching us with all the feels. Check out the video below which has little Gilpatric, and his equally as mind blown parents, opening the reply from Lucasfilm.
It's the cutest thing, man:
