With the unfortunate news of Hugh Jackman wanting to give up portraying possibly his best role ever on screen as Wolverine it left fans of the character in shock , wondering who could possibly replace Jackman as the beloved X - Man member. People began coming up with actors who resembled wolverine such as Tom Hardy or Gerard Butler.
But what if , perhaps its not the actor that needs to be changed but supposedly it was the character? Sound crazy ? well I am hoping to prove you wrong , Wolverine is probably the most loved X - Men character and losing him altogether and just continuing on the films without him would in my opinion not work , so this is why I propose we introduce a character to this franchise which for the most part will not be known , only to big fans of [Marvel](channel:932254). I know everyone wonders who this could be ? well its none other than Wolverines son Daken.
But who is Daken ? well Daken is the son of the mighty and fearsome Wolverine. Wolverine married a Japanese lady named Itsu , who would go on to carry Wolverines child Daken. Things did not go good though for Wolverines wife Itsu.
While The Winter Soldier was trying to capture Wolverine , the Winter Soldier killed Itsu who was heavily pregnant at the time , the baby however, was cut from Itsu's womb while dead and the baby (Daken) was raised by a Japanese couple as their own. Daken later trained under Cyber and worked for Romulus , who hated Wolverine.
Being trained by Cyber and working for Romulus , Daken quickly transitioned into a powerful being with ruthless combat skills. His appearance was different to Wolverine as he was half Japanese and his claws are made of bone. He has his signature tattoo which covers his left chest and arm.
Romulus hatred of Dakens father Wolverine cause Daken to vow to kill Wolverine. Wolverine realizing his offspring wanted him dead , capitalized on this by drawing Daken in to a trap in which he faked letting Deadpool kill him. Wolverine hired Winter Solider to get [Deadpool](movie:38663) to do this despite him murdering his wife previously. As Daken intervened as Deadpool faked the assassination of Wolverine as they had planned , the Winter Soldier put a carbonadium bullet in Dakens head which prevented him using his healing factor kicking in. Wolverine then took his son away to see if he could free him from the influence of Romulus.
The two eventually made Romulus their common foe after it was discovered Romulus was behind the murder of Daken's mother Itsu. The father and son duo teamed up to defeat Romulus and although working perfectly as a team the two could never become close and constantly fought on many occasion, despite being equally matched.
How to fit Daken into the X - Men Cinematic Universe:
Now seeing as it would be almost impossible to go with this story line for introducing Daken as X-Men have different owners than Marvel super heroes like Winter Soldier, so if Daken was to be introduced they may have to loosely base it on comic book story lines or maybe recreate it altogether.
In the comics Daken goes on to wears his fathers costume and joins the Avengers group run by Norman Osborn , this can be changed and maybe have Daken take on his fathers role as Wolverine in the films. Theres multiple ways to make this work , perhaps kill off the original Wolverine but this would result in killing off such a great character , a fan favorite at that and nobody wants that. I think maybe if Wolverine decides he no longer wants the burden of being part of the X-Men so retires , only for his son Daken to take up the role and carry on his fathers legacy.
Daken could something totally new to the X-men Cinematic Universe with his alternative personality and move set to Wolverine. He would be a fresh take on the X-Men films rather than continuing the usual Wolverine. Daken is known as the Dark Wolverine in the comics and he could be given the same title in the films. He is known as Dark Wolverine because his morale and goal is much darker and grittier to that of his father Wolverine.
Saying goodbye to the original Wolverine:
First of all , I'm not saying I want Wolverine gone , but seeing as Hugh Jackman wants to retire as the iconic character after X-Men: Apocalypse , I would much rather have a new take on the character , than I would have some new actor try take over as Wolverine , I find the role after Jackman will become doomed role , no one will be able to pull of this significant role as well as Jackman did and will face much criticism off fans if they did try, Whereas with Daken its a new role that can let another actor make a significant portrayal of and make their own , all while keeping aspects of the wolverine character but making it new at the same time.
Daken I believe could easily fit in with the fellow X-Men and help them to battle the evil which they face. Daken could perhaps be introduced in either an X-Men movie or perhaps a solo film entitled the Dark Wolverine in which he takes on the role of his father by the end of the film and the film could tell the tale of him becoming what it is his father was.
Daken's Powers & Abilities:
Daken is a powerful mutant with his accelerated mutant healing factor like his father has , he also has retractable claws which are made of bone. He possesses superhuman senses , endurance , and reflexes , plus manipulation of others via pheromones. His powers are almost identical to his fathers so replacing Wolverine would not mean we would never see Wolverines epic powers again.
Daken to most people is a new character and so could be portrayed however the film makers want him , I would much rather see him portrayed differently to that of Wolverine because we do not want to see Daken as a copy of Wolverine , we want to see him as a unique character who can carry on his fathers legacy, all while being a character we have not seen before.
Daken is a deep character and one who could become a central figure in the X-Men films and maybe gain enough fan support and fondness to have his own spin-off films like Wolverine had , I would love to see Daken's adventures in confronting his father and his Japanese background , all while battling his way through becoming a key member of the X-Men and a strong stand alone character.
