The Spin-off that nobody has asked for
The first reported details of ABC's spin-off series from Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D have emerged thanks to a report from Deadline. It seems that Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood are both finalizing deals to appear in the spin-off show. However at this point Marvel, ABC and the actors themselves have declined to comment on the report.
Both Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood both joined Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D in its, still current, second series as a former married couple. Palicki plays veteran agent Bobbi Morse/Mockingbird and Blood plays former mercenary turned S.H.I.E.L.D agent Lance Hunter.
The pilot to the spin-off is being developed by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D executive producers Jeffrey bell and Paul Zbyszewski, the pair who developed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D itself. It seems the script is still in an unfinished state and ABC are waiting to see the end result before officially green lighting the project. Mockingbird and Hunter are two of the shows better characters and it seems strange to remove them from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D after incorporating them so much into series two so they will have to come up with something good.
Now the details are out of the way we can get on to more important matters namely: This is a spin-off no one seems to have asked for...
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is not an incredibly popular show on it's own, in fact it has still not been renewed for a season 3. Agent Carter, the sort of spin-off/prequel to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D aired earlier this year and was met with very mixed reviews and lower numbers than were expected and it too has not been renewed as of yet. With 2 shows that exist in the same universe, both of which not doing great, is adding another to the mix really the best plan?
This does ask the question of why on Earth you would want to create a spin-off series from one/two that aren't incredibly popular on there own? When you combine the fact they are planning a spin-off combined with the fact that the writer of 12 years a slave John Ridley has been attached to yet another Marvel TV series for ABC most definitely makes us ask why?
Are Marvel finally starting to slip and beginning to put out content they need in order to complete the MCU but content that nobody actually wants? Of course we hope that isn't the case and that they will turn things around and start to produce higher quality TV shows, Daredevil not included.
So what do you think of the idea of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D getting a spin-off series? Does anyone actually want it? Do you think it will get green lit? Will Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D or Agent Carter even be renewed? Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook/Twitter.
