It's the spin-off no one asked for, but we're getting anyway. Marvel is quietly developing an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off series for ABC.

Executive producer Jeffrey Bell and writer Paul Zbyszewski are developing the new show.

It is currently unknown which characters from the current series will be moving over to the proposed spinoff. In addition, there will not be an upcoming episode to set up the new series, the same way DC Entertainment launched The Flash out of Arrow. However, story elements that are still to come on SHIELD this year will be used to lay the groundwork for the potential new series.

That is if the new series is picked up. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has yet to be officially renewed for a third season. In addition, ABC has yet to select which of its crop of pilots will receive series orders this coming season.

Although it has struggled since Season 1, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has grown in popularity this year. The show currently averages 7.4 million viewers and a 2.8 rating among adults 18-49, when including seven days of DVR playback.

All we can say is, if the spin-off is indeed picked up, here's hoping it doesn't struggle the way the current series has.

Honestly, is anyone interested in an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off? Let us know!
