Hard to believe we're getting a third re-launch to the Spider-Man film franchise so soon. While you'd expect fans of the classic Marvel Wall-Crawler to throw up their hands in disgust and walk away, Marvel Studios isn't letting us give up on Spidey that easily.
Rumored to be making his MCU debut in Joe and Anthony Russo's Captain America: Civil War, many have wondered time and again just who the new Spider-Man will be. Now, Kevin Feige is ready to set the record straight once and for all.
Said Feige in a recent interview with Collider: “In terms of the age of an actor we’ll eventually to cast, I don’t know. In terms of the age of what we believe Peter Parker is, I’d say 15-16 is right.”
And so, the debate ends. Peter Parker, not Miles Morales as some had hoped, is the MCU Spider-Man. Yet, why bring the character in as a high schooler? Feige continues: “We want to play with Spider-Man in the high school years because frankly there’ve been five Spider-Man films and the amazing thing about it is, even though there’ve been five Spider-Man films, there are so many things from the comics that haven’t been done yet. Not just characters or villains or supporting characters, but sides to his character. The most obvious being the ‘young, doesn’t quite fit in’ kid before his powers, and then the fella that puts on a mask and swings around and fights bad guys and doesn’t shut up, which is something we want to play with and we’re excited about.”
We can honestly say we're excited to, Mr. Feige!
With filming on Civil War set to kick off soon, and a solo Spider-Man movie planned for July 28, 2017, expect a casting announcement to drop soon!
Until next time, Infinite Earths fans!
