Jon Stewart has been doing [The Daily Show with Jon Stewart](series:2086205) for 16 years, and he recently announced that he's calling it quits, revealing that Trevor Noah would take over his duties as host of the show. There was a pile of drama around Noah and many aren't sure he will successfully follow his predecessor, but that's beside the point.

The fact of the matter is, The Daily Show has remained culturally relevant and has acted as a social and political watchdog for 16 YEARS. And now, Stewart has announced his final show will be in a few months - August 6th to be exact. It will be a sad day for many fans who have turned to Stewart for laughs... but also, frankly, for the news.

Stewart explained his reason for leaving the show behind:

"You have moments of dissatisfaction," Stewart told The Guardian, "and then you come out of it and it's okay. But the cycles become longer and maybe more entrenched, and that's when you realize 'Ok, I'm on the back side of it now.'"

It's really a bummer. I'll always remember when he came back from his brief hiatus after September 11th... not to bring the mood down, but it's a prime example of Stewart as an extremely caring individual. And I think, if he no longer cares enough to feel he's doing an adequate job on the show, that's a fair enough reason to give it up. Here's the clip:

I would say he almost felt like a father figure to a generation. He's spawned so many amazing careers. We'll miss him on the air, and I'm sure whatever he does next will be freakin' awesome.
