"You're all about the Superheroes!"

You know me so well...

"Hey you.. yeah, YOU! My Spidey senses are telling me that you're crazy about the world of DC/Marvel. Since you've got love for all things super-related, so why not try your hand at writing a SUPER... VIDEO GAME article? Suit up, and get gaming! HOT TOPICS: Batman: Arkham Knight, Halo 5, Bloodborne, Kingdom Hearts 3"

Wow! Really?

Okay so video games and me don't exactly mix all that well. I never had the hand-eye coordination to play them well and was never all that competitive. Still, we go way back. The first video game I can remember playing is Asteroids. I eventually got good enough to clear the first level, but it got crazy. Those rocks kept flying faster and faster and I just could not keep up. Then my little brother would step up and clean my clock. So yeah, I decided there were better uses for quarters.

A few years later, Pac Man and Donkey Kong were all the rage . Both were kinda fun and who didn't love to play? This guy. Again my lack of coordination meant some guy, (or worse yet girl,) would drop their quarters in line and take over the game when I was lucky to make it past level 2.

There was one game I would stick with for a while and that was Gauntlet. I was a D&D player and this was as close as you could get. I liked playing the Elf and still to this day when I'm hungry I will sometimes say "Elf needs food, badly!"

By the time I got to college I began to discover my favorite part of video games. My friends had brought their Super NES to college with them and we would sit around BSing and watch someone or other playing Double Dragon or Super Mario Bros. That's where I got my enjoyment, in cheering my friends on and hanging out.

Over the years since then, I have enjoyed watching my friends playing more and more advanced games. Sure every once in a while I would play myself, but what I loved were the stories. It was great watching Lara Croft raid her tombs or the Master Sargent blow through aliens. I started to read books on Halo and other games.

My daughter and I now play some Spiro games together. I actually broke down and got a Wii for her a few years back. Strangely, I like to bowl on there and I'm not bad at it. Maybe it's time to rethink my views. Hmm.. then again, I still prefer to read.
