In the Moviepilot.com contest, the challenge was to get out of your comfort zone (mine was comicbooks) and write an article about video games. I don't own a gaming console and I don't like playing games on my laptop. But I like playing games on my phone and tablet. Right now, I'm kinda hooked with Marvel's Contest of Champions. So that's what I'm going to write.
Bring forth the champions.
For those who are not familiar, Marvel's Contest of Champions is a free-to-play mobile fighting game developed and published by Kabam. It features characters from the Avengers, X-Men, Inhumans, Guardians of The Galaxy and others. This fighting game requires an internet connection in order to play.
Loosely based on the limited-series comicbook Marvel Super Hero Contest of Champions, the game is a sort of a role-playing game, quest game and fighting game rolled into one. The collector had gathered all the heroes and villains and chose you, the Summoner, to battle Kang the Conqueror.
Give me more power.
You are given with an initial set of heroes, and as you win battles and finished quests, you'll be able to upgrade your heroes or buy heroes from the Collector's hero collection. The game provide you with a limited amount of energy for quests, but it can increase as your level as Summoner also increase. The energy recharges automatically over time or players can refill their energy manually via looted energy boosters.
Characters levels can be increased by using rare ISO-8. Catalysts, found on special events, can level-up your heroes. Gold are used alongside ISO-8's and catalysts for upgrading.
Each character is assigned to one of six classes, specifically Cosmic, Tech, Mutant, Skill, Science and Mystic where the some class are stronger than the other. Marvel characters can come in one of four tiers or stars, but not all characters are available in every star level. Some characters can be obtained through various Crystals, but others, specially those with higher stars can only be obtained via tournaments.
Just like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the game leads to a showdown with Thanos. So, if you are into Marvel movies and would like to command your favorite Marvel heroes or villains, then this game is for you.
