It seems that our favorite group of puppets are set for another return, yet this time with a completely different direction.
It has been announced that ABC is producing a new TV series of The Muppets, with a "adult twist." In addition to the usual absurdist, variety sketch comedy of the original show, this new release will be shown in a 'mockumentary' style and bear closer similarities to The Office, 30 Rock and Arrested Development.
Apparently, it will also dive deeper into the personal lives of The Muppets.
According to ABC, the intriguing official log-line goes like this:
“The Muppets return to prime time with a contemporary, documentary-style show that—for the first time ever—will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires; a more adult Muppet show, for kids of all ages.”
Considering this is a new direction for the cheeky puppets, I'm getting pretty excited about the idea. I wonder, how will the turbulent relationship between Kermit and Miss Piggy will develop throughout all of this?
I bet this would be a good example of the producers wanting to explore the personal lives of the characters. But, how "adult" do you really think they would go with the themes, do you think?
