Recently, it seems the Star Trek movie franchise may have been slightly overshadowed by that other science fiction movie franchise with the word 'Star' in the title. Y'know the one I'm talking about.
Although Star Wars may have snatched up Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams, it's now starting to seem like Star Trek 3 is finally finding its feet. At the very least, it has a title.
According to TrekMovie, the title Star Trek Beyond has just been registered with the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), which means it is very likely to be the official title. In a recent interview with MTV, star and co-writer Simon Pegg also suggested the story of Star Trek 3 would literally go beyond what we've seen so far, explaining:
"I mean, this is the five-year mission now, we’re out there. We don’t always have to keep bumping into the same people… So we’re gonna try and reflect that in the movie."

The film is set to be directed by Justin Lin and is currently scheduled for a July 8, 2016 release date.
