Ok this part of the article I feel I need to add an update as Both Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner have both issued apologizes through USA Today.
"Yesterday we were asked about the rumors that Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America. We answered in a juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize."
"I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone," he said through a representative. "It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour."
I for one am glad they apologized all though Jeremy Renner's apology seems to carry with it a certain amount of venom, but that's neither here nor there at the moment. I will state for those who haven't read my original article I believe wholeheartedly that the two of them were in fact joking the whole time, but I still don't think that's an excuse for inappropriate comments. At the end of the day I could never imagine the time and effort it takes to do what they do on the scale they do it, and the fact that they take the time to interact with fans and the various media outlets with a smile on their faces 90% of the time is admirable. I am a fan of both and will continue to support both of their careers, but because they are famous actors they shouldn't be exempt from being held accountable for what their words can lead too.
My original article starts below this line if you care to take a look...
So i'm not 100% sure when this interview took place, but during a press interview promoting the new "Avengers: Age of Ultron" movie (that has already hit screens in some countries but won't be aired in the U.S. until May 1st.) Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans are seen joking about their co-star and fellow Avenger Scarlett Johansson aka the Black Widow. I for one find the interview or at least parts of it to be very offensive, the portion of the interview in question is shown below...
Now I know wholeheartedly they are joking and didn't mean to imply anything about Johansson, but they are professionals who have become icons to adults and kids alike. They could have done and said things differently to get their humorous point across without using words like: Slut, whore, trick and so on.
With their already being a push from fans for more diversity and gender equality in not only the movies and TV shows in the superhero genre but in merchandise as well do we really need to see Captain America and Hawkeye publicly disrespecting the only prominent female figure in the MCU. Moviepilot creator Rose Moore recently wrote a very good article entitled "Avengers themed shavers from Gillette, and STILL nothing for female fans!" In which she expresses her displeasure at quite a few things wrong with the merchandising industry and their lack of gender equality in toy's, razors, and just about everything else.
I am not exaggerating I almost decided not to see this movie (even though I most likely still will, I can be weak willed.) over these insulting and insensitive comments. But thats just my point of view what do you guys think...
