If you haven't watched the first season of Daredevil on Netflix, which released 13 full-hour-long episodes on April 10th, then you are missing out on something quite extraordinary. The tone of the series felt like a 13-hour long film that was much grungier and darker than what we've seen existing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After the enormous critical praise the the series has received, it comes as no surprise to any of us who are fans of the show, that the season has been renewed for a second season. Speculation went on as to when the second season would take placed since Netflix and Marvel are currently filming A.K.A. Jessica Jones, and will begin filming Luke Cage for a 2016 release date and possibly the same for Iron Fist and the collaborative of all four characters in the Defenders.
I know I, for one, was glad to hear that the Devil of Hell's Kitchen would be returning to cause more problems for the MCU's street-level villains.
As for how Charlie Cox feels about it? Well, he feels the same way, and after talking with Empire Online, I've discovered that he has echoed many of my desires of what he wants to see in the second season of Daredevil.
Charlie Cox's Wishes
When asked what he'd like to see in the show's second run, Charlie Cox went on to say:
"Based on the show we’ve created, which is very grounded in reality, I’d like to see Punisher maybe show up,..."
Taking a moment to stop him right there, I just want to point out that I have been telling everyone I've talked to about this show how I would have loved to have seen the Punisher make an appearance in the MCU and that the Netflix formula would be fitting for him. I've also mentioned that introducing him in Daredevil would be a cool way to establish him as he has been known to have run-ins with Daredevil before.
"...a little bit of Elektra maybe."
Elektra is another character who is very popular in the Daredevil mythos and was (unsurprisingly) excluded from the first season of Daredevil, probably as a way of further differentiating itself from the failed 2003 film.
But that doesn't mean bread crumbs for the female assassin to make an appearance haven't been left. No, in the first season of Daredevil, we got to see Daredevil fight a member of the Hand who may have connections to Elektra's storyline.
We also got to hear, during a flashback back to when Matt and Foggy were still in Law School, how Matt took a Spanish class just to snuggle up with "that Greek girl" who we all knew was Elektra.
"I wouldn’t mind Black Widow making an appearance, and you can’t think about Daredevil for too long without thinking of Bullseye. I don’t know when or if or how that would happen, but it’d be cool if it did."
Another character that was probably left out due to their connection to the 2003 film was Bullseye. He is an essential villain to Daredevil's mythos and fans have been just as eager to see him make an appearance to take on Daredevil just as much as Elektra.
It would also be cool to see Black Widow make an appearance as there have been good love storylines between Daredevil and Black Widow.
Filming and Release of Season 2
Charlie Cox also went on to reveal when the second season would begin filming as well as revealing the release date time-frame:
"We’ll begin shooting in the second half of the year. It’ll be the same timeline as the last show, so season two will come out about this time next year. Again, I’m imagining all this, but there’ll probably do Iron Fist or Luke Cage at the same time, followed by the other one [of the two] in the first half of 2016 and then maybe Defenders in the second half of 2016 or the beginning of 2017."
This is all good news to me and I hope that the new showrunners of the series hear Charlie out and include some of the awesome characters mentioned above.
What do you guys think? Are you excited to see the second season of Daredevil? Which character between Punisher, Elektra, Bullseye, or Black Widow would you most like to see make an appearance. Please feel free to share all your opinions, thoughts, and speculations in the comment section below.
