To be perfectly honest with you dear readers, Daredevil (2003), got a couple of things right. The fighting is something that doesn't get a lot of credit, and the portrayal of Bullseye which was just so ridiculous it was enjoyable. But, this one had to be the best decision out of all. It's the costume!
Say what you will about the movie as a whole, or Ben Afflecks acting ability at the time, but the Costume Department did a fantastic job and an extremely faithful adaption of it.
It's not bulky or rubbery like the earlier Batman movies, and it's not a spandex suit. It's a leather suit that, in reality, could be used as good armor from various weapons. You have the double D logo. The entire face mask with the red lenses look incredible. Not to mention it was perfect for flexibility when it came to the martial art stunts. It's like it was plucked straight from the comic-book.
It's more than I can say about the most recent adaption....
Now put down your pitchforks. I love the show, but this costume doesn't seem like it fits. It's the standard webbing/armor look that we've been getting in other hero based shows. Plus, the costume doesn't have a bright red traditional look more like a muted red. Which shocks me the most seeing how the show loves to play with it's color palette.
What I dislike the most about the costume is the head gear. It makes him look grumpy. It also looks like the facial features of the mask are squeezed together. Maybe it's because of the weird eye outlines. It's just that the costume design doesn't stand out as being anything special.
But I think they are definitely going to retool the costume a bit more in the upcoming season due out a year from now. The costume was always silly looking anyways, and I can't see it becoming any worse. I was actually starting to get used to the all black costume.
