As an avid movie fan and gamer alike, it always sparks my interest when i hear of of a a game that is based off of one of my favorite films. Sadly, the reality of this grand idea is that most of these games are quite horrible. It is very rare to see a video game tie in to be of quality. Most of these games unfortunately suffer horribly from lack of funding and most games feel rushed and unpolished. A few of these games have even been considered to be some of the worst games of all time, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial on Atari 2600 is the prime example. With this being said, there are a few games out there that have actually been made very well and are some of many gamer's all time favorites. What games are considered to be the best movie based games of all time?
Star Wars Battlefront: 2
Ahh yes, I spent many of my nights playing Star Wars Battlefront: 2 for hours. This game is an absolute gem, one of my personal favorites in terms of Star Wars games are concerned, and as far as any game is concerned for that matter. You control an army, either Rebel or Republican in most cases, and play through some of the most famous battles throughout the Star Wars universe. You play as soldiers, with multiple different classes, each with their own perks. Throughout the battle you are presented the opportunity to play as your favorite Jedi such as Luke, Darth Vader, Yoda and many more. This game definitely deserves a spot on this list.
Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets (GBC)
I must be honest here, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is probably my least favorite in the Harry Potter series, which I am a huge fan of, but the game on the other hand is one of the most memorable games i have ever played. Is it graphically stunning? No, is does it have groundbreaking gameplay? No but they are able to capture elements from a sandbox, turn based RPG and throw it in the Harry Potter world and it worked wonders. The game allows you complete freedom to roam around Hogwarts and many other settings from the Harry Potter films, with missions that somewhat follow the original story to some degree. It is not usually mentioned on anyones favorite movie game list, but in my opinion it definitely is and I might have to go through and play through it yet again.
Aladdin (Sega Genesis)
Aladdin on the Sega Genesis in more times than not going to be on any gamers top games list. This game is pure side scrolling genius. The graphics stand out with great effect and really bring the world of Aladdin to life. The soothing and up beat sound of the arabian music playing in the background brings back so many memories. This game is one of the games I grew up on, it is also one of the games that initially sparked my interest and got me into gaming, an interest that still holds strong to this day.
What kind of list would this be if I didn't mention Goldeneye 007. Universally recognized as the grandfather of all First-Person shooters. It set the standard to what every FPS should be held too. Yes, there were other shooters that came before it, but no game did one thing as well as Goldeneye did, and thats the multiplayer. 4 player split-screen matches on a 18 inch fishbowl television, these were the days and there has not been any experience like it since. First Person Shooters must pay homage to what Goldeneye did, it revolutionized a genre. Games like Call of Duty and Battlefield may not be around if not for Goldeneye. I can honestly say that not only is Goldeneye 007 one of the best movie based games of all time, it is often considered to be one of the greatest games of all time not only in my eyes, but in millions of fans eyes as well.
Spider-Man 2 for the ps2 is easily one of the best superhero games ever. With the ability to free roam the city of Manhattan, there is endless fun. You really get a sense of what it is like to be a superhero as you swing your way from building to building stopping crime, finding collectables and completing challenges. The web swinging mechanics are absolutely flawless. The combat is great, everything about this game is just great. I have so many personal memories playing this when i was younger, I loved being able to read my comics and watch the film and be able to play it out in a game, its every comic nerds dream. Definitely well deserving of a spot on the list
