The Dwarves of Demrel - an upcoming independent Fantasy Feature from Plastic Tree Productions, and the latest crowd funded independent film is off to an impressive start!

Here's the official synopsis:

In this steampunk, fantasy adventure, a collapse imprisons three Dwarven miners who must now work collectively to combat starvation, despair, and a mysterious creature. Further complications arise when one of the Dwarves learns of their joint, morbid fate and must decide whether to tell the truth, or keep it a secret and preserve hope.

In my last article, I explained the details of the crowdfunding campaign that had been launched on Kickstarter and within a mere 24 hours of the aforementioned campaign launch, Dwarves, targeting a $40,000 funding goal, already hit 25% of its goal!

In 24 hours!!

If the current trend continues Dwarves will have raised $280,000 before the campaign ends on May 20th, that's 700% which is almost unheard of when it comes to projects of this scale.

The creators have really focused their kickstarter campaign on singular and crucial element that is so often neglected in independent fantasy films - the set design.

"Good set design goes unnoticed because it completely immerses you into that world. A bad set design however, screams out to the audience 'bullsh*t'."

Says the projects director Chris Raney.

"Zach (the producer) and I have a simple motto, everything matters. We've stuck with that through the development of the characters' costumes as well as through the painstakingly long process of selecting our production location."

The project is most certainly ambitious, with a budget less than what Peter Jackson's the Hobbit had for coffee - 300K.

"We run a lean crew. Nothing superfulous. We own all our own gear. We have a talented, ambitious crew behind us and a great cast. We're hungry to create, and I truly believe that passion is going to show up on the screen."

The producers released the first teaser, compromised of just 4 days of test shooting at the location. Early results say that the teaser is blowing fans away as they've come to expect much less from indie fantasy films.

"We're going back for another 56 days in October/November of this year to finish shooting. We're excited because we felt we accomplished a lot for the teaser in just four days in the mine."

56 more days of shooting ladies and gents! If they can pull of a teaser as badass and as beautifully shot as that, with just 4 days worth of footage, imagine what 52 more days will do!

I know right!?

If you'd like to check out the campaign for yourself, you can do so here! As with most crowdfunding campaigns, your card will only be charged once the campaign reaches its goals. Pledges start from $10 and work their way up - the more you pledge, the bigger the perk!

I've already pledged my $20, how much will YOU pledge?

Will you be making a pledge for DoD?
