Sure, we all love to read about the adventures of our favorite comic book heroes or see them come to life on the big screen. But have you ever wondered what was the inspiration for such characters as Iron Man or the Incredible Hulk? Maybe you've been curious about the rise of comic books to pop culture status. Or maybe you just want the chance to pick the brain of the man behind so many amazing creations, Stan "The Man" Lee.

Well, guess what? Now you can! Best of all, it's FREE!

The online learning platform SmithsonianX is hosting an MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) titled The Rise of Superheroes and Their Impact On Pop Culture. Teaching the class along with Stan Lee are Michael Uslan, producer of the Batman films and the first to teach a class in Comic Book Folklore, and Michael Ulsan, VP of Graphicly, a digital comic distribution company.

In the 5 week course starting on May 5th, students will learn about the history of the comic book books from their start in the 1930s to today, the mythology of some of the most iconic heroes and how they have evolved over time, as well as how comic book culture has swept across the world.

Best of all, students will be able to chat with their instructors...yes, even ask questions of STAN LEE himself!

Here's all the info you need...

Imagine it! Sitting at the feet of STAN LEE (metaphorically speaking) and hearing about the history and mythology of superheroes... and did I mention, IT'S FREE?!

I should note that if you sign up to receive a Verified Certificate for the class (for a fee) you will also receive a piece of original artwork signed by Stan Lee and Michael Uslan.

For me, this is a no-brainer. I already signed up! Are you interested? The online class begins on May 5th, so don't delay!
