I am not a known quantity

Recently I attended a Disney-sponsored event which featured tweenybop music and free pizza! Whilst all was well and good amongst the fans and performers, something caught my eye: It was the printed large-format disclaimer display in the corner. There were cameramen filming the proceedings, and this sign wanted everybody to know that they were being watched. And there's even more, with the Disney corporation possibly admitting to long-guarded international secrets! Read on to see how the pen is mightier than the sword…

Here's the full text:

By your presence, you hereby consent to be filmed and otherwise recorded and agree that Disney Channel and/or Radio Disney ("Producer") may use, and grant others the right to use, your voice, name, and to film and/or otherwise record your image and likeness, without limitation or restriction, and without payment to you of any kind, for all purposes, in and in connection with this television production or any other production (including, without limitation, the advertising and promotion thereof), throughout the universe, in perpetuity, in any and all languages, formats, manner, media, devices, processes, and technologies whatsoever, now known and/or later devised.

Producer is recording in reliance upon this notice and your consent in connection with its production activities taking place in this area. If you do not wish to give such consent, do not enter this area. If you do come into range of the camera and/or the sound recording equipment, you will be deemed to have consented to this notice and waived any and all claims you may have with respect to entering into this area.

Wow. What a screed from the corporatocracy over at the Mouse House. In essence what it says is: by being in their video production, even in the smallest capacity, Disney has the right to use your face, voice, name, and likeness in any way they want, forever. You don't have the right to your own image, merely by having the honor to step within the zone of Disney's fabled cameras and microphones.

And did you catch that part about them owning your soul in this capacity, throughout the UNIVERSE??! So it isn't just Disney's Earthbound operations we are talking about here. This begs the question: does Disney know something we don't about extraterrestrial life? Are they already broadcasting to bodies beyond the Earth? Is there an intergalactic cable network that we don't even have access to? Are children from other star systems enjoying Disney's programming right now? Why would Disney use this term in their disclaimer?

And here's a documentary which shows that Disney indeed has a history of being interested in the alien question:

Let me know if you think Disney is hiding something. Thanks for reading.
