Did that really just happen?
I believe this is the question that's hovering our minds, right?
The beloved character Dr Derek Shepher, aka McDreamy was killed off in the latest episode of Grey's Anatomy (11x21). It surely took us by surprise, since Patrick Dempsey had signed a two-year contract extension the past year, so he should be in 12th season. But, apparently, he won't be.
"Derek Shepherd is and will always be an incredibly important character- for Meredith, for me and for the fans. I absolutely never imagined saying goodbye to our 'McDreamy' ", creator Shonda Rhimes said in a statement.
For me Derek Shepherd was the most perfect character in Grey's Anatomy. He was kind, romantic, happy, sad, and always true....just perfect. I mean, sure, he had some problems, but haven't we all?
First it was Mark and Lexie, then it was Owen and Christina and now it's Derek and Meredith. Shonda keeps ruining my OTPs.
Let me take it from the beginning. I started watching Grey's Anatomy 5 months ago and in this time I got to 11th season. And yes, I was disappointed at Derek because he would prefer his job at DC and not his family, but then he got back and he was so sweet, he was suspicious, of course, cause he returned when Meredith called him and another woman answered his phone, but he cleared himself off. In 11x20 there was a plane crash. Arizona was there. Meredith was there. Owen was there. Callie and Miranda were there. But Derek..... I'm sure we all first thought that he was in that plane, and we waited to see an ambulance taking him to Grey and Sloan Memorial. But again, Derek was nowhere to be found. And Meredith would keep playing in her mind the last time they talked and saw each other, and that was just heartbreaking, cause we all knew that something was wrong.
And we were right. Okay, he wasn't on the plane that crushed, but he was in a car accident....well, two car accidents. In 11x21 we see what was happening before Derek disappear and die. He was talking on the phone with his sister, April and Miranda and then he lost them. After a while the first car accident happened, but Derek wasn't involved. We were relived that Derek didn't hurt. He helped all these people, he fixed them, as a surgeon is supposed to do. And then, after these people got in ambulances and headed to the Hospital, Derek found his phone that he'd lost between the two seats and a truck hit him. I mean, what the hell? He was taken in a Hospital, that wasn't Grey and Sloan Memorial, and as it seemed he was taken in a Hospital that isn't well equiped, and I don't mean only the hospital itself....The doctors didn't follow the protocol and that lead Derek to his death.
Then, the police went to Meredith's house to tell her about her husband's accident. And we were all devastated...She took her kids with her to the hospital where she saw her husband on life support. But before that, there was a scene in which Meredith was in the Hospital and Derek was just fine, talking and responding well. I thought it was real. But I heard "Mrs Grey, mrs Greys." and that shook me off. It was like the earth opened up. What stranges me most was that, she signed the papers without telling anyone, not even his sister....
I love Grey's Anatomy and I won't stop watching it, only because they killed one of my favorite characters, but from my point of view Grey's Anatomy is taking the down road. And it all started after the first plane crush, where Lexie and Mark died (that really screwed me up), Arizona lost her leg, Christina had a meta-traumatic experience, Meredith was scared to hell and Derek had to break his own hand in order to get up and find his love of his lile.
He survived a gun shot. He survived a plane crush. But he couldn't survive a car accident, because the Hospital he was sent to didn't follow the protocol. Why couldn't they send him to Grey and Sloan Memorial? But if Shonda wanted him dead, it wouldn't matter where he'd been sent to.
I've kissed a lot of women. The first time I kissed my wife, well she wasn't my wife then. She was just a girl in a bar. But when we kissed, I gotta tell you, it was like I had never kissed any other woman before. It was like the first kiss.....the right kiss.
Grey's Anatomy will never be the same without Derek 'McDreamy' Shepherd, and he'll surely be missed.
We love you Derek.
I did, I do and I will always love you Derek Shepherd. That's a promise.
