The PS4 and XBOX One systems have had a great deal of teething problems straight out of the gate. We had the traditional launch titles that failed to generate any interest or demonstrate any form of imagination whatsoever, and a lot of gamers were pretty disappointed by the small step up. However, now that we're over a year into the release of these Next Gen consoles, both Sony and Microsoft have had time to relax and start publishing some great games for their systems.

Neither the Xbox One nor the PS4 has had a handful of great exclusives, but Sony's Playstation 4 has certainly got some really great titles that you've got to buy! Here's my list of the best games for the PS4, ones that shine in terms of graphics, gameplay, narrative or immersion, or a glorious mixture of the whole lot!

The 13 Best Games on PS4

Number 13 - The Last of Us: Remastered

The Last of Us: Remastered
The Last of Us: Remastered

Being a previous generation title, I thought I'd start with The Last of Us, even though it happens to be one of the greatest games I've ever had the pleasure of playing. The story of Joel and Ellie has never looked better than it does on the PS4, and it has most definitely become the definitive way to engage with this game. The added inclusion of the Left Behind DLC and its dynamic multiplayer mode, makes re-purchasing this game all the more worthwhile.

Naughty Dog's indelible masterpiece is a must-have game for anyone that owns a PS4 or PS3! It demands a playthrough, and in my experience, 3 more on top of that! Most PS4 consoles come with The Last of Us included, as it's clearly one that Sony is proud of.

Number 12 - The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

The Binding of Isaac is also a remastered title, a trope of modern gaming as we're all aware. Originally on the PC, this little game wasn't actually the fully-realised version that its creators of Super Meat Boy, wanted it to be. It had a fair few issues, and they couldn't actually utilise the pixelated art style that they desired, due to the lack of power that the Flash engine had. Therefore, compared to The Last of Us, The Binding of Isaac actually grew into the game that the creators wanted it to be on the PS4!

And boy, what a game it is! Its procedurally generated levels, insane difficulty, seemingly endless degree of items and insanely enjoyable gameplay, make it one of the best indie titles you could hope to play on PS4. It can be so disgusting, and crushingly difficult, but a really rewarding experience. The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a better game on the PS4, and it's one title that I still have a whole lot of fun with!

Number 11 - OlliOlli 2

OlliOlli 2
OlliOlli 2

When I first tried OlliOlli 2, I was ready to give up within ten minutes of playing it. However, after you start to get a hang of the basics, this becomes one of the most addictive games on the PS4. Learning how to perform the most complicated tricks at the fastest speeds, while simultaneously trying not to break your neck on a set of stairs, is nothing short of exhilarating.

Hours will absolutely fly by in OlliOlli 2, and each one will bring you closer and closer to feeling like a masterful skater. I haven't enjoyed a skating game this much since Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2. Yeah. This is a must buy on the PS4, but be prepared for frustration if you're new to the world of OlliOlli.

Number 10 - Fifa 15

Fifa 15
Fifa 15

I think everyone of these lists has to feature the obligatory sports game, and while I'm not generally a big fan of them, there's a whole lot of fun to be had with Fifa 15. From mastering the training exercises to competing for the top division online, Fifa 15 is probably the best football game out there. Unless of course PES 2015 is your thing. But there's something about Fifa that makes it stand shoulders above its competition.

With the whole football world having moved on to Fifa 15, it's the definitive place to compete online and with friends, and a welcome title on the PS4. Though I don't enjoy sports games all that much, it's a welcome addition to my collection.

Number 9 - Grim Fandango: Remastered

Grim Fandango: Remastered
Grim Fandango: Remastered

For many of us, when Sony announced that Grim Fandango: Remastered was coming to the PS4, never mind still in existence, it was pretty unbelievable. LuasArts' gem of game remained hidden for many years, or only available on terrible PC downloads. Now the PS4 is the new home of Manny Calaver, it's one of the biggest reasons to buy this console.

Grim Fandango: Remastered, boasts some exceptional voice acting, an incredibly deep storyline, well orchestrated comedy, and some classically awesome gameplay that forces the player to really think about how each puzzle is to be solved. It's an absolute gem and a must buy if you own a Playstation 4!

Number 8 - Borderlands: The Handsome Collection

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection

Ahh, Borderlands. A glorious mix of RPG story-progression, coupled with a Diablo-loot system and absolutely glorious FPS mechanics. All of this is wrapped up into an art style and tone that has helped make Borderlands 2 one of the greatest games of last generation. Now the PS4 is home to old Handsome, but with updated graphics, improvements in local multiplayer, all of the DLC and the ability to transfer all of your save files from last gen to current.

It's an absolute blast to revisit Borderlands 2, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel can be a lot of fun too! If you've yet to experience a Borderlands game, then this is the definitive way to introduce yourself to some of the most unique Triple A games in ages.

Number 7 - Far Cry 4

Far Cry 4
Far Cry 4

Even though I'm getting pretty tired of Ubisoft's shit, especially with the stunts they pulled last year with Assassin's Creed: Unity and The Crew, Far Cry 4 is a blast. Yes, it's basically Far Cry 3 with a few new improvements, if Far Cry 5 is like this there will be hell to pay. But for now, Far Cry 4 is a ridiculously good time. Be it singleplayer or multiplayer, there's a lot to do in Kyrat!

The graphics shine on the PS4, the guns feel great, the interactions with the wildlife are fantastic, and even though the story is pretty lacklustre, there's so many fun things to do in Far Cry 4 that you won't even mind!

Number 6 - Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition

Diablo 3
Diablo 3

Diablo 3 is an absolute sensation. My god, this game is fantastic. Blizzard spend a great deal of time on porting this to the Xbox One and PS4, and it's remarkable how well the game works on consoles. With the game running at 60FPS at 1080p on PS4, this is a truly beautiful way to engage with one of my personal favourites of Blizzard's.

The Ultimate Evil edition of Diablo 3 incorporates the Reaper of Souls DLC for the game and effectively melds it into the main campaign. It's a great game on PC, but if you're a fan of the Diablo franchise, you should check out how well this title runs on the PS4.

Number 5 - Alien: Isolation

Alien: Isolation
Alien: Isolation

In 2014, any fan of the Alien franchise was treated to one of the greatest additions to the series since Aliens. Alien: Isolation is everything that we wanted from an Alien game, and it took the developers of a strategy game to do it. First off, the design and lighting of Alien: Isolation is breathtaking. There wasn't a single corner I turned that didn't astound me.

The sound design is also remarkable, fully immersing the player in the world of Ridley Scott's creation. But the real power here, is where it should be; in the Alien. It is a totally unpredictable creature and it will mercilessly slaughter you a ridiculous amount of times. It shines on the playstation 4, and if you consider yourself a fan of this franchise, you owe it to the Alien to buy this game.

Number 4 - Shadow of Mordor

Shadow of Mordor
Shadow of Mordor

Where did this piece of genius even come from?! Shadow of Mordor was not something that many of us had a lot of faith in. We've seen some pretty horrendous entries into the video game world with the work of J.R.R. Tolkien. But somehow, Shadow of Mordor was out to prove to all of us that it could breathe new life into the franchise on consoles.

With visceral combat, a great story, a well realised open world and a revolutionary game mechanic, Shadow of Mordor can't be missed. The Nemesis system is something that every developer is going to want to implement into their titles, which allowed us to influence the state of power in Mordor. It is a remarkably satisfying adventure, and I can't recommend this PS4 purchase any higher.

Number 3 - Helldivers

Helldivers
Helldivers

$15 on release. 15 DOLLARS!!! For the money that you're charged for Helldivers on the PS4, this is one of the most essential purchases that your current gen console needs. The level of satisfaction that can be experienced with Helldivers has rarely been eclipsed. Singleplayer is an insane amount of fun as you go up against waves of enemies, and calling in ordinance drops to help you out in tight situations as you gradually fight the fight against three different factions.

If you play the game for long enough you unlock some amazing weaponry, but where the game really starts to shine, is multiplayer. Seeing another player drop into your game is exhilarating and often grants a sigh of relief in some of Helldivers' most challenging missions. I cannot recommend this game any higher, for the price that they have it on PSN, you need to get it. Without a doubt, one of the best games on the PS4.

Number 2 - GTA V

GTA V
GTA V

What more can we say about Rockstar's GTA V? It is an absolute marvel. It is epic in every sense of the word, and one of the greatest games of our generation. BUY IT! The PS4 version of 2013's GTA V features some updated graphics, smoother frame rate, the amazing first-person mode and the ability to play as a deer or an eagle. What more have you ever wanted out of a game?

Number 1 - Bloodborne

Bloodborne
Bloodborne

Unbelievable. There isn't a single exclusive that can top From Software's Bloodborne. The design of this incredibly dark and blood-soaked world, is a gamers dream. The combat is endlessly satisfying. The multiplayer is so engaging. Every boss fight leaves your hands sweating, and sometimes you'll shake with the tension. Bloodborne is hard as nails at times, but it's the most rewarding game I've played in a while.

As an avid admirer of the Souls series, I feel this has finally topped Dark Souls. Developers for the PS4 are going to have to work seriously hard to even eclipse the accomplishments of this game. Without a doubt, the number one must buy on the PS4!
